Who would be the audience for your media product?

Target audience• In order to target our audience we carried out questionnaires to find

out more about them and hence finding out what interests they had that we could include in the sequence.

• Although we would have preferred to have an audience of both genders the majority of people who took part in our survey were female and so the plot of our opening evolves around a young female character; this targets our new found audience as they feel that they can relate more to this character.

• I personally also found through women magazines such as “ the stylist” that women enjoy detective dramas and the reasons they give for this are, as the gender that is “less physically strong” women use these dramas as guides to spot potentially dangerous people so that they can avoid them or prevent these encounters more easily, and because they can see themselves in the kinds of vulnerable positions played by the victims.

Age category

• Due to the thriller having such a complex storyline and bloody content I would categorise it as certificate 15.

• For it to be aimed at a younger audience it the story would be more suitable if it wasn’t as complex so that they could follow the drama better.

• Certificate 18 films often include, explicit sex scenes, hard drug use, sadistic violence, or supernatural horror. Out of this list our film only uses implied violent clips (blood) and some forms of horror (dead girl haunting the mind of a detective) but there is nothing too graphic or disturbing enough to restrict our audience to over 18s.

Certificate 15

This certificate enables us to include smaller forms of the type of content that an 18 certificated film could have, and it expands the limitations we could have in a 12 rated film. Also, many mainstream thriller movies are rated 15, we are already targeting the right audience market according to age ratings.
