Meet Florine Meet Florine Who is Florine Florine Mark is founder, President and CEO of The WW Group, Inc., the largest franchise of Weight Watchers International. Mark's name is synonymous with healthy living. Previously Mark owned operations in 13 states, Mexico and Canada grossing annual revenues more than $90 million a year. Florine had a lifelong weight problem. She lost and regained 50 pounds nine times using diet pills until she ended up in a hospital. Desperate to find a healthy solution, she became a member of Weight Watchers, with founder Jean Nidetch as her leader. That’s how Florine was finally able to lose those 50 pounds and keep them off for more than 30 years. What is Florine’s greatest accomplishment? You might expect the answer to be “see above” but in fact, Florine says her greatest accomplishment is being the mother of five chil- dren. “I love the work I do and the recognition I’ve received,” says Florine, “but having my family to share it with is what really counts.” What kind of recognition has Florine received? Florine has been named one of the Top 25 Women Business Owners in Michigan and one of the 50 Leading Female Entrepreneurs of the World. She's also received an honorary doctorate from Central Michigan University and was named Entrepreneur of the Year by Wayne State University. She traveled to Greece to accept the Euro- American Woman’s Council’s Artemis Award for entrepreneurial leadership. Florine has also received a number of awards from causes close to her heart, including the March of Dimes, the National Kidney Foundation, the Women’s Survival Center, the American Lung Association, the Israel Cancer Association, the Boy Scouts of America and Junior Achievement. Florine runs a big business – does she still find time to volunteer?Yes, this is one of the reasons that Florine is well-known outside the boundaries of the WW Group. Florine is the former chairperson of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, Detroit branch. As such, she was elected each year for six years (the maximum) to the Board of Directors. She was approved and personally trained by Alan Greenspan for the former position! Currently, Florine serves on Harvard University’s Women’s Leadership Board and numerous other boards including, the March of Dimes, the Jewish Fund, the Leukemia Society of America, Children’s Hospital of Michigan, the American Red Cross Southeastern Chapter, and Wayne State University’s College of Education and School of Business Administration. It sounds like Florine really gets around! Does she do any public speaking?Absolutely! Florine is always in demand as a motivational speaker. Topics include everything from living a healthy life to women as business owners. In October of 2008 she spoke to thousands of students at Babson College in Boston Massachusetts about the traits of great entrepreneurs. Florine has also spoken at countless events throughout the country about her personal story and her book "Talk to The Mirror". And she has addressed 5,000 attendees at the International Leadership and Invention Conference.
