President’s
Reportthe 2 official rings certainly brought a lot of competitors. The weather also was very kind, especially after the heat in the previous days. I would like to thank our sponsors which enabled us to buy the garlands which I must say were very impressive! Thank you to Megan for organizing the raffle and to everyone for their very generous cash donations. The prizes looked amazing which made the selling of tickets very easy.
Our next event is the Combined Training Day in March. Please pencil it in to your calendar for the working bee the day before and riding/helping on the day.
See you all at the Xmas breakup on Sunday 16th December. MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR. I hope that you all have a safe & happy Christmas with plenty of riding!!
Cheers, Chris Williamson

Had a discussion recently about thoroughness. As a Judge it is something I don’t see a lot of. As a trainer/rider it is something which we should put at the top of the list of things we are aiming for. We talked about what thoroughness means, how it feels, how you can recognise it from the ground and how you achieve it. The next day, whilst researching something completely unrelated, I came upon an excellent article on thoroughness on the Equestrian Life website. Written by Brett Parbury, it is well worth reading. Due to copy write we can’t reproduce the article but here is the website. Enjoy.

We have booked Adam Wooten for our January Mid week rally as he was so well received at our October rally. As Adam has a fair distance to travel, we need to make it worth his while so I need to confirm numbers ASAP.
If you are interested in riding at this rally, which will be Wednesday January 30th, please let Megan know ASAP, prior to Christmas would be fantastic if possible. Sessions will run as Dressage with poles for the morning and Showjumping sessions in the afternoon.
Please contact to on 0438 070 678 or [email protected] as soon as possible to confirm interest in attending.
Booking form attached.
NOVEMBER MID WEEK RALLY REPORT Our last mid week rally for the year came with some muggy summer weather! I think even the horses were in shock with the heat!!!
Thanks to Brya and Erin for the fantastic instruction as per usual and it was great to see a few new faces.
The cavaletti sessions are proving to be very successful and Erin provides some great exercises for both horse and rider.
The January rally should be a good one with Adam Wooten booked, so register your interest as soon as possible.

This was the first of our new rally session format with two instructors instructing four sessions each on the all-weather arena. It works out to be a longer day starting at 12.00 and finishing at 4.00pm, but with more daylight hours and warmer weather, it went well. This new format also gives members more of a chance to sit down, have a drink, a piece of yummy cake and a good catch up session with fellow members. It was great to sit on the sidelines and have a chat. We may need more chairs bought out next time! Thanks to Michelle for the yummy sandwiches.

Report by Belinda
We may have to include a short break for our instructors, this will be advised in the next newsletter. Jan Saunders and Sue Tuffnel were instructing, and everyone was working hard!. After the dressage session Sue held a cavaletti & block jumps session with five riders, with the block jumps getting to their highest testing some of the riders used to doing the lower poles. Diana and Erin then did the last session, the cross country, both successfully, in the end, getting over the dreaded ditch with the monsters lurking below!
Good to meet our new member Connie and her husband Tony, Connie brought her new horse down and settled in well.
Also welcome back to previous members we haven’t seen for awhile, Pat Hancock and Russell Beaton, and thank you to the assistants for helping, Megan L, Erin, Michelle and Tennille.
WHITTLESEA ADULT RIDERS DOUBLE CHANCE SHOW
Hooley dooley!! These double chance shows are certainly popular. Sixty riders competed at our show at the beginning of December. Used to a quiet, laid back sort day under our old two ring format, we were caught by surprise as the floats just kept rolling in. A bit of a log jam developed in the office at the start of the day but this was efficiently dealt with by our front desk ladies, Belinda and Rebecca.

Report by Sally
There were large numbers in most classes and the quality was very high. It was the first time we have offered the double chance format. Both rings had a full range of events including all official points earning classes and ring hopping was the order of the day. The Highpoint Awards were hotly contested with the overall winner scoring the beautiful woolen rug sponsored by PETER LENNOX AUTOMOTIVE and a $250 voucher from EQUISSAGE as well as one of the beautiful garlands for their Level 4 Highpoint win.
Thanks to the generosity of sponsors BEJEWELLED BROWBANDS, INNOVATIVE LANDSCAPE SUPPLIES, CUE SIGNS AND MARK LOVELACE, we were able to offer a range of prizes for Champions, Reserves and the Highpoint and Reserve Highpoint winners.
Our grounds are perfect for this type of show with ample parking, roomy arenas which offer flat/well grassed surfaces, the whole of the sand area for warmup and a great viewing area under the shade cloth. All this framed by the beautiful backdrop of Mount Disappointment.
The Christmas Hamper raffle was well supported and five big baskets of goodies were sent home with the happy winners. Thank you to Megan Cue for putting the raffle together. The proceeds cer-tainly helped boost the Club coffers.
Belinda and Chris had a break from running the canteen this year and the task was taken on by the indefatigable Diana Earp. The healthy food options were well received and there were just a few scraps left by the end of the day. Our little old Jack Russell may have most of her teeth missing but she is par-tial to a sausage and she was happy to assist in the disposal of the leftovers.
Quite a number of our members competed with Megan Cue and Cruise taking home the garland for the Level 2 Highpoint and Brook Haber and Brodie winning the Level 1.
Another notable performer was Fran Sozzi on Bil-labong who won the Mount Suitable for HRCAV Championship in both rings.
Well done to everyone who rode and thank you to all those who offered to help on the day. It was very much appreciated.

Rally Programme - Sunday 20th January 2013Whittlesea Showgrounds (Enter via Showgrounds Road)
REMINDER: PLEASE REMOVE ANY MANURE FROM THE YARDS AND PUT CHAINS BACK UP WHEN YOU HAVE FINISHED USING THE YARD
Also – if your horse poops on the all weather arena – please pick it up before you leave the grounds. We have to pick up all the poo before harrowing to keep grass from growing on arena.
MAXIMUM OF TWO SESSIONS - The committee has set a maximum of two sessions per rider – one dressage and one non dressage. This is to keep numbers in sessions at a reasonable level.
Our first rally for the year may be a little lower on numbers with people still away on holidays, horses spelling after Christmas and a large contingent down at the TTT Show.
We have therefore decided to use a different format.
YOU WILL NEED TO BOOK FOR THIS RALLY
Instructor will be dressage and eventing rider Wendy Christensen

First session will start at 9.00am and we plan to finish by 1.00pm
