Dear Whitman Families, I hope you are enjoying the brief intervals of sunshine so far this spring. The garden is looking beautiful. Thank you to everyone who came to our garden party! The first week of May is Staff Appreciation Week at schools. I feel so grateful to have a wonderful team to work with on behalf of your children. They are dedicated, committed to your students’ success, and they demonstrate care and love in every interaction they have. Please join me in showing your appreciation this week. Take some time to stop by and say thank you. I also want to take this opportunity to thank our volunteers who in all ways, shapes, and forms support and help our students and teachers. It is our goal that Whitman is the center of our community, and you help make that possible! We are happy to announce that Whitman will have two full day Head Start classrooms starting this coming school year. We are excited about the opportunities this provides our families and students. Students should wear clothes to move in that could get wet!

area in the lobby of our school is full of stuff! Please come by and

check for any of your child’s belongings. If you are missing a

smaller item, please check in the Office. Anything not claimed

will be donated or thrown away on Friday, April 28th.

Third Quarter Report Cards/Progress Reports We just wanted to remind families that as part of the terms with Portland Association of Teachers (PAT) to turn a planning day into an instructional day to make up for school closures this winter, the district agreed that third quarter report cards/progress reports will only be mandatory for stu-dents that meet the following criteria: · Seniors · Students who otherwise need a grade (i.e. eligibility for athletics or college applications) · Students in quarter classes · Students in danger of failing or whose behav-ior or achievement shows a significant decline · Special education students Please know that at any time you can communi-cate directly with your child’s teacher to discuss your child’s progress and understand how your child is performing in school. Also know that end of year report cards/progress reports will be delivered to all families upon com-pletion of the school year in accordance with the regular schedule. Oбщение о табелях успеваемости за третий семестр Для того чтобы восстановить как можно больше утраченных учебных дней из-за плохих погодных условий в декабре и январе, Портлендский государственный школьный округ (PPS) и Ассоциация учителей Портленда (PAT) согласились на продление учебного года и изменение методического дня на учебный день. Также было принято решение о том, что оценки за третий семестр будут обязательными только для: · учеников выпускных классов, · учеников, которым необходима оценка (напр. для участия в спортивных секциях или для подачи заявления в колледж), · учеников, которые записались на квартальные классы, · учеников с плохой успеваемостью или чье поведение значительно ухудшилось, · учеников специального образования. Несмотря на то что многие ученики не получат официальный табель успеваемости за третий семестр, родители всегда могут связаться с учителем их ребенка и обсудить его успеваемость. Табеля успеваемости и оценки за год будут выставлены всем ученикам по окончании учебного года.
