With the season rapidly drawing to a close, time is running out to use your cards, as the balances won’t carry forward to next season, unless you have loaded additional funds onto your card. This year, the cards will be able to be used at the Junior Wind-up for personal consumption only which means they are not to be used for “take-aways” to use up your balance. Also, for the remainder of the season you will be able to pay for your meals with your bar card. So make sure you get down to the club over the next few weekends to use your card! Lock box at McDonald’s Reserve After an incident at Yokine recently, where an ambulance was required for one of our young players, the ambos had to use bolt cutters to remove the chain on the gate to get to our player, as there was no-one at that ground with a key to open up. At our request, City of Joondalup have installed a key-coded lock-box near our outside store room on the southern end of the building, which houses the key to the entrance gate to the fields, should the need arise at McDonald Reserve for a similar situation. We hope this box never needs to be opened, but in the case it does, we are prepared. We will be sending an email this week to the coaches/team managers of all teams who play at McDonald Reserve and advising them of the code to the box. by the Early Bird deadline

and are entitled to your

“free” WHC Refreshment Card,

don’t forget to come down to the

club on a Thursday night or Saturday night to collect it and start

using the funds loaded onto your card. With the season rapidly

drawing to a close, time is running out to use your cards, as the

balances won’t carry forward to next season, unless you have

loaded additional funds onto your card.

This year, the cards will be able to be used at the Junior Wind-up

for personal consumption only – which means they are not to be

used for “take-aways” to use up your balance.

Also, for the remainder of the season you will be able to pay for your

meals with your bar card. So make sure you get down to the

club over the next few weekends to use your card!

Lock box at McDonald’s Reserve

After an incident at Yokine recently, where an ambulance was

required for one of our young players, the ambos had to use bolt

cutters to remove the chain on the gate to get to our player, as

there was no-one at that ground with a key to open up. At our

request, City of Joondalup have installed a key-coded lock-box near

our outside store room on the southern end of the building, which

houses the key to the entrance gate to the fields, should the need

arise at McDonald Reserve for a similar situation. We hope this box never needs to be opened, but in the

case it does, we are prepared. We will be sending an email this week to the coaches/team managers of all

teams who play at McDonald Reserve and advising them of the code to the box.

Maria’s delicious Sticky Date Pudding

For those of you who weren’t at the club for the Masters Men’s 50’s & 60’s dinner, you missed out on

something special. Not only did you miss out on “Christmas in July” roast turkey and all the trimmings, but

you also missed out on one of the best pudding experiences ever. By popular demand, here is the recipe that

Maria Ewen has kindly decided to share with us.

Maria’s “delicious” Sticky Date Pudding

1 cup seeded dates

3/4 cup boiling water

1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda

50 gm chopped butter (I always use

unsalted butter for baking)

2/3 cup brown sugar firmly packed

2 eggs

3/4 cup self raising four

Butterscotch sauce

1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar

2/3 cup thickened cream

100 gm butter (unsalted)

Preheat oven to moderate 160-180 C

Line the base of your baking tray (tray should be 25x25 or similar if you don’t want it too thin). If you use

muffin pans for individual puddings, grease those.

Combine dates, hot water and soda in a bowl of a food processor, place on lid and let it stand for 5 min.

Add butter, brown sugar and process until almost smooth.

Add eggs and flour, process until just combined.

Pour into baking tray you prepared and bake for about 20 min or until firm to touch on the top.

To prepare sauce, combine all ingredients in a small saucepan, stir over heat until sugar dissolves and butter

has melted.

ENJOY!

The chefs having a ‘jolly’ good time in the kitchen!

Last Bogan Bingo Standing

Saturday September 1st at the clubrooms

Last year’s hit night Last Man Standing is back, but with a

twist! We’ll be combining it with some Bogan Bingo and making

it a night of awesome prizes and a whole lot of fun.

Last Man Standing

For those of you who missed out on this fantastic event last

year, don’t be silly and make the same mistake again!

How does it work, you ask? Well, let me explain.

There are 100 tickets for sale. No more, and no less. Each ticket

is $20, and you go into the draw to win the fantastic prize of

$1000 and the crown of Last Man Standing. Last year’s winner

Gerald Dawson will no doubt be out to reclaim his title for

the 2nd year running!

Tickets are on sale now, so you’d better hurry, because they are seriously hot property. And if you have a lucky

number that you are eager to claim, you’d better move even faster! You can get your tickets from one of the

fantastic Social Committee reps – Rachel Collier, Tom Bodenstaff, James Dawson, Caitlin O’Connell or Laura

Taylor.

Bogan Bingo

I know you’re all already excited about the Last Man Standing, and are wondering how on earth it could get any

better, but I’m here to tell you it does!

We will be also holding games of Bogan Bingo throughout the night, with some fantastic prizes up for grabs.

Each bingo card will cost you a shiny $2 coin, and you can buy as many as your heart desires!

And what would Bogan Bingo be without, well, some bogans?! Make sure you iron your best flanno because we

will be giving a prize to the best dressed Bogan of the night (if it’s even possible to be a well dressed bogan?!)

So go get your diary out, open to September 1st, and write this great event down. There will be dinner on at the club

before hand, slushie machines at the bar, and you can all make great use of your bar cards!

Calling all donations

Do you have an awesome job, own a company that produces enjoyable goods (ie- wine, chocolate etc) or just

have some great things lying around the house? Well, you’re in luck, as the Social Committee is looking for some

donations for prizes.

If you can help out, please contact the Social Committee at [email protected]

Thanks in advance!

The reining Last Man Standing.

Hook in 2 Hockey: Minkey & Graduates

The Hookin2Hockey season is almost over for another year. Every Saturday morning since May, there

have been over 100 minkey and graduates developing their hockey skills and having lots of fun on

Whitford's home ground at MacDonalds Reserve. It has been fantastic to see so many young children

develop a love for the game of hockey and the enthusiasm of these players certainly bodes well for the

future of Whitford's hockey.

To compliment the season all teams are taking part in the Relay For Life Hin2H Carnival at Iluka on

Saturday, 18th August, from 9am. This should be a great opportunity to spend a morning playing hockey

and putting into action all the skills learnt over the past season.

On Saturday, 1st September, the Minkey and Graduates Windup will begin with Players vs Parents before

presentations are done and a sausage sizzle enjoyed by all. Hockey sticks will be available for those

parents who don't have one!

A special thanks to all the coaches, managers and parents who have supported, encouraged and developed

the players every week and a huge thank you to Fiona and her team for suppling the hot coffee and

delicious food every Saturday morning!

To Kim Whitlock, who has been the driving force and organizer of the Hin2H program, our heartfelt thanks

and appreciation for all his hard work behind the scenes and every Saturday morning!

There are some new and exciting developments planned for the Summer Season and the 2013 Hockey

Season so make sure you check out the Club's website regularly!

North Metro Regionals

Whitfords Hockey Club was proud to have some of its talented junior players representing the club at the

North Metro Regionals during July.

Congratulations to Mat, Duncan and Lynden who played for the J9/10s, Scott and Denver who played for

the J7/8s, and Kim who was our only female representative!
