Consumer products

The pinnacle in nonstick coatings out-standing nonstick (release) that lasts wasfinally achieved by Whitford with Eterna (inversions for cookware and bakeware).

The Dry-Egg Test proved this. An egg iscooked in a pan with no butter or oil. The test isrepeated until the eggs no longer lift off withease. Tested were 3 competitive nonstick pans.

A similar pan coated with Eterna was tested.The results: Nonstick A lasted for 13 friedeggs. Nonstick B went to 15. Nonstick Cwent to 33. New Eterna went for 350 fried eggs at which time the test was stopped.

Thats more than 26 times better than one of todays most popular nonstick coatings, andmore than ten times better than the nearest top-end competitive nonstick system.

Excalibur won the reputation of the tough-est, longest-lasting, most durable nonstick system in the world. Thats be cause Excaliburis reinforced externally with stainless steel. Theresult: Only Excalibur offers the strength ofstainless steel plus the release of the worldsfinest nonsticks.

The Eclipse primer contains a unique com-bination of resins and unusually hard materials.Because it contains no nonstick, it can be dedi-cated entirely to (a) adhesion and (b) reinforce-ment. The midcoat also contains the specialreinforcements, which permits the topcoat to bededicated en tirely to release. This integratedsystem provides resistance to wear thatexceeds by far all internally reinforced systems.For cookware and bakeware.

and have a short pot life.Fusion, also a two-coat,has far fewer compo-nents, is much sim-pler to use and moreuser-friendly.

Regulatory compliance

Regulations covering many prod-ucts are becomingmore and more strin-gent around the world.

Its comforting that all Whitford interior coatings,solvent- and water-based, comply with the rele-vant regulations of the USDA, FDA, JIS, Commis-sion Regulation (EC) 1935/2004 as amended(for the EU), as well as many others. Note:Compliance with a regulation in one countrydoes not automatically mean compliance with asimilar regulation in a different country.

Whitfords QualityCooperative Program

As an additionalstep to ex pand quality control, Whitford hasestablished the QualityCooperative Program(QCP), and its free.

Its primary purposeis to achieve and main-tain the highest qualityby preventing problemsfrom occurring beforeany coated productsreach point-of-sale.

The QCP sets quality standards that must bemet by those who apply Whitford coatings. Italso outlines specific test procedures that mustbe carried out on random samples of all coatedproducts to make sure that these applicationstandards are maintained. Industrial productsWhitford offers a broad range of coatings for

diverse industrial applications. For example, wemake products with outstanding release charac-teristics for applications such as food process-ing, shoe molds, and photocopy rollers.

Other products provide superior corrosionresistance for critical parts such as threadedfasteners for the chemical-processing, energy,transportation, and waterworks industries. General commentsUses

General-purpose coating for dry lubrication in high-speed and/or low-temperature environments. Typical applications include rotary actuators,bearings, carburetors and garden tools.

Improved abrasion resistance over Xylan 1010. Typical applications includehinge pins, piston casings, compressors, fasteners, etc.

Extreme pressure capability. Coating contains MoS2/PTFE. Typical applications include bearings, valve springs, sealing rings, etc.

Our expanding universe

1. Xylan liquid coatings are usually appliedusing common spray techniques to achieve adry-film thickness in the range of one mil (25microns). However, certain applications call forother coating techniques (dip/spinning) to coatlarge numbers of small parts efficiently.

MostXylancoatingswereformu-latedwithorganicsolventsbutrecently we have developed easy-to-use water-borne analogues that are far more environmen-tally friendly.

One of our best is Xylan XLR (Xtra Long Release). Xylan XLR outperforms all industrialrelease coatings available, significantly reducingthe need for re-coats during the life of the com-ponent. And it offers a variety of benefits includ-ing enhanced resistance to abrasion, improvedhardness, resistance to permeation and highergloss.

Xylan HB (High-Build) is an innovative 2-coat,waterborne, fluoropolymer release coating thatcan be applied in thicknesses up to 3 mils (75microns) with only one baking cycle. Xylan HB isan alternative to fluoropolymer powder coatingswhere a liquid coating is preferable.

2. Xylan powder coatings can be appliedusing electrostaticspray or fluidized-bed techniques in thicknessesgreater than 1.5mils (37 microns),advantageous(versus liquids)where a thickercoating is required.These powdercoatings can be applied withalmost zero envi-ronmental prob-lems: there are no VOC-bearing

effluents or wash-down solutions toclean up.

Whitford offersa growing rangeof fluoropolymerpowder coatings.For example,PFA+ is ideal for the industrialmarket. Com-pared to stan-dard PFA pow-der coatings,PFA+ offers better release and superior smoothness.

We also offer a range of decorative and func-tional powder coatings for use in high-tempera-ture applications such as mufflers, wood stoves,BBQs, and gaskets. For example, Xylan 94P canwithstand temperatures up to 1000F (540C).Also included is our Xylan 26P one-coat, hot-hardness, easy-clean, food-grade, high-temper-ature powder with enhanced resistance to corro-sion and abrasion.

Flexible FinishesWhitford has developed a line of specialty

automotive coatings called Resilon (water-borne) and Xylan (solvent-borne) that offer acomplete range of benefits to solve many prob-lems on flexible substrates.

These include low friction, freeze-release,excellentresistanceto abrasion,eliminationof itch andsqueak.There is improvedresistance toweatheringand chemi-cals, plus aesthetics (including clear coatings).

These flexible finishes are easily applied to a variety of substrates, including EPDM, NBR,PVC, ASA, acrylics, ABS and polyester, some-times in combination with Whitford-providedprimer systems or other pretreatment options.They are used for glass runs, door, boot andbonnet seals as well as for decorative effects.

Many major automotive manufacturers ofthe world now specify at least one of these high-ly versatile flexible finishes.

Major manufacturers worldwide fromFord to Volkswagen have insisted onflexible finishes made by Whitford.

Xylan offers low friction combinedwith superb resistance to abrasionand corrosion for the oil patch.

Industrial bakeware is a key marketfor some of Whitfords newer prod-ucts that provide extended release.

Xylan has been protecting large fasteners of many kinds for many years.

Controlling and reducing noise are of para-mount importance to auto manufacturers today.Thats why Whitford has installed the worldsmost advanced noise-analysis equipment, designed to replicate itch and squeak on cars.Whitfords advanced low-noise technology (LNT)can virtually eliminate the noise generated bymicromovement between mating surfaces such

as a car door and the doors sealing system.
