Welcome to the 4th annual Whitetail Guide Fall Magazine. Our foremost goal in pub-lishing this magazine is to place invaluable information in the hands of farmers before the upcoming breeding season and right after the bucks are done growing their last few inches for the season and to help farmers promote their Farms, Bucks and semen. This magazine will help you hand select the semen in hopes to advance your farm to new heights. We strive to be your central resource and aim to keep the industry breed-er bucks at your fingertips.

With the increasing demand for breeder stock and stocker bucks we are very excited for the Whitetail Deer Industry. 2013 looks like it will be exceptional for Stocker bucks which will only help the breeder stock demand for this fall and the future.I would like to express a special thank you to all the farms that trusted us with their ad-vertising needs in this magazine. As always we strive to give you the best exposure for the least amount of dollars spent.

Don’t forget to check out the Catalog for the October 1 Stocker and Breeder buck Auction on October 1. We will continue taking stocker buck consignments until Sep-tember 15th so if you have any bucks you are looking to sell please call us.

As always, it has been our goal to help provide a central resource of valuable informa-tion to the deer farmer and we feel that this edition should raise that bar even higher. All of the data contained within these pages has been provided to us and is assumed accurate. The Whitetail Guide has taken every effort to maintain this accuracy, but will not be held responsible for false/misleading information. If you feel there has been a mistake made, please contact our staff or the listing farm to resolve these issues.

I hope you enjoy the Whitetail Guide Fall Edition as much as we enjoyed gathering this information and wish you all the best of luck this Fall!

Jumbo hit the new world record yearling in 2012 at 411” @1. And at 2 due to antler infection we had to cut his antlers early before he was finish growing in July. He scored 428” in velvet with a full month left to grow. He had 82 scorable points plus several more points starting. We believe he would have scored over 500” if he could have finsihed out. Jumbo semen is sold out for 2013. We are very excited to see what Jumbo’s first group of yearlings are going to do in 2014 growing season.

Young Blood is as pretty a buck as we have on the farm. This year at three he looks to be over 26” Inside, est. 230”+, with great beams and the look the ranches demand. He is the product of stacking two tremendous sires in GD Romeo and Waldvogels Rolex, on top of a proven typical frame producing doe in Green 12. Green 12 is a direct PBJ daughter that was the mother to GD Handsome 212”@ 3 (TYPICAL), GD O-16 232”@2, PRW O-01 230”+ @ 4, and a clean typical 6x5 two year old est. 160”+ this year. Xcelerater is looking to be better than ever this year at five. Est. 360”+,32”+ I.S., 33”+ mainbeams. Maxbo XL has proven him-self to be considered “the most prolific producer of his era” and then combine him with a proven female side anchored with Glenn’s “typical super doe” and you have a tremendous combination. 50 Click For Contents Tips from Newport Labs – Dr WagnerSummer is fading away and fall will soon be showing it’s colors. This is a critical time for the deer

industry. We have or are in the process of weaning fawns, shipping bucks, removing antlers and getting ready for breeding season. This is the time of year when we actually have the opportunity to physically put our hands on these amazing creatures. The question you need to ask yourself is, what will you do with this opportunity?

The products you choose to give your deer when they are in the chute or you have them down can directly affect their production this fall and winter, which can directly affect your return on investment. You need to have a specific reason why you give each product to your deer and know the potential benefits each product can bring to your herd.

Controlling/limiting disease in your herd is one way to directly decrease your losses and increase your profits. Each herd/farm is different and faces different challenges yet management is the key to limit-ing disease in any herd. Vaccines and de-wormers are primary tools in any management program. They do not replace good management but are a critical part of any management program.

Pneumonia is thought to be one of the leading causes of disease and loss of production in cervid herds. There are certain pathogens that have been diagnosed repeatedly in pneumonia cases in cervid herds and it would be logical for them to be part of any vaccination program. Fusobacterium, Pasteurella and Trueperella are the pathogens that have been isolated most frequently from diagnostic cases of pneumo-nia at Newport Laboratories. These are not the only pathogens that cause pneumonia, but limiting these pathogens on your farm has the potential to decrease the number of animals who are affected by this disease and thereby decrease the amount of money lost to this disease. When making a decision on what vaccine to use in your herd you need to make the effort to learn what each vaccine available contains and if it fits your needs. Knowledge is power! Your vet should always be part of the discussion when you begin to develop your vaccination protocol, they can assist you in determining which pathogens have affected you the most in the past and help chose the most appropriate vaccine to limit these pathogens in the future.

Parasites can have a detrimental affect on our herds and the cervid industry has been using the de-worming products on the market for years. Everyone is very well associated with the idea of giving a shot of Ivermectin whenever we physically get our hands on our deer. There are many different de-worming programs and they can vary depending on your herd’s challenges. It would be best to perform diagnostic fe-cals on your deer and then decide along with your vet which is the best product to use in a particular pen or group of animals. All of the products we use to control parasites are designed and labeled for other species, whenever we use these products it is an off label use. There is a new product on the market that may be very beneficial for the cervid industry due to the length of time it has been shown to control parasites. The product is LONG RANGE and has been shown to control parasites in cattle with one application/injection for up to 150 days. I would recommend you have a conversation with your veterinarian and determine if this product can fit into your management routine.

As with any form of disease it is always more profitable to prevent than to treat, Newport Labs is committed to assist the cervid producer and their veterinarian by helping diagnose disease and limit its effects on your farm with Custom Made Vaccines. If we can be of any assistance please feel free to contact us.

Dr. Wagner

Lucky Bucky Core

Testimonial: Not only do I recomment using Nutra-Glo™ for mature deer, I’ve found that several drops in the bottle-fed fawns’ milk keeps their digestive system in great shape. My neighbor does a couple drops in each bottle, but I only do several drops “once a day.” –T.S.- Alexandria, PA
