159 VACQUEYRAS BLANC LES PRÉMICES 2015 Domaine Roucas Toumba, Rhône Valley (France) £52.00

Classy cool climate chardonnay, creamy & elegant.

The jewel like bottle itself should be enough to tempt you; in fact it has the most deliciously creamy

palate with a really elegant finish.

£95.00

56 CHABLIS GRAND CRU Blanchots 2012 Réserve de L'Obédience Laroche (France)

Laroche gave me a bottle of this for winning a Chef prize last year. It is brilliant.

Red Wine

259 PETALOS 2015 Bierzo, Descendientes de J.Palacios (Spain)

This 100% mencia would be my Spanish Beaujolais & memories for me of a bottle or two with Cocido in

Galicia, but being a lighter red it goes exceptionally well with dishes like the Autumnal Sea Bass,

maybe a tad spicier than Beaujolais.

£46.00

329 RIDGE 2014 LYTTON SPRINGS ZINFANDEL Santa Cruz California (USA)

Great zinfandel is as rich & deep coloured as only California could produce – & doesn’t get much

better than this.

£75.00

309 MOSS WOOD CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2003 Margaret River (Australia)

This is one of my favourite cabernet sauvignons from anywhere. I first went there in 1998 and to me it's

£120.00

340 BODEGA COLOMÉ ALTURA MAXIMA MALBEC 2014 Salta, (Argentina)

Located in Northern Argentina this wine is produced from the highest vineyard in the world at 10,200ft,

blackberries and spices – only 20 barrels made.

£150.00

280 SPERSS 2009 Langhe, Piemonte, Gaja (Italy)

Sperss – With my three sons I was lucky enough to attend a tasting of the 2005 Barolo in the presence

of the great man himself, Angelo Gaja 92% nebbiolo & 8% barbera, it’s one of those wines which

everyone will utter phrases like "now this is very serious stuff indeed" Robert Parker described 2006 "The

wine seems to hover on the palate with an ethereal expression of dark fruit, smoke, liquorice &

menthol, all of which are backed up with substantial heft & sheer muscle".

DOCG one, memories for me of Venice to Istanbul.

97 PETER LEHMANN BLACK QUEEN SPARKLING SHIRAZ 2011 (Australia)

I can’t believe that the big trend for 2017 is going to be sparkling red, Australian’s such as the

Lehman family have been making this for generations and I’ve been rather frustratingly pointing out

how wonderful it is..

Notwithstanding this is a first-class champagne, you either love the colour or hate it. I adore it, they

even make an orange cycle in the firm’s colours.

1 SAUVIGNON TOURAINE DOMAINE DU FRAISSE 2016 (France)

A really great example of herbaceous, fruity, zesty Touraine sauvignon, unusually leafy and

concentrated with lots of character.

£25.00 £6.20

2 RICK STEIN'S SPANISH WHITE 2016 Castilla y León (Spain)

After several seafood delights whilst filming in Galicia & drinking a number of Castilla y León from white

china cups I had to find a really good one for us. I asked Charlie to find something made from the

verdejo grape, it's a wine to celebrate my Spanish book & TV series.

£26.00 £6.50

4 PINOT GRIGIO VILLA FIORE 2016 Venezia Giulia (Italy)

Many pinot grigios that you come across these days are weak & dull with none of the smell & flavour of

the grape. This shows exactly how pinot grigio should taste, soft but with crisp acidity & a faintly spicy

element which marks the fruit of this wine.

£27.00 £6.80

6 GEWURZTRAMINER RESERVA 2016 Aves del sur (Chile)

This delightful gewurztraminer from Chile has aromas of rose petals and Lychees, typical of the grape.

Ideal partner to some of our spicier dishes.

£28.00 £7.00

5 CHATEAU BAUDUC SAUVIGNON BLANC 2016 (France)

A British couple, Gavin & Angela Quinney are making this exceptionally zingy sauvignon blanc wine

from Bordeaux. As they say so much Bordeaux white is bland & flat, this is a different matter all

together & is one of our special selections.

£29.00 £7.30

3 XANADU EXMOOR DRIVE CHARDONNAY 2016 Margaret River (Australia) £30.00 £7.50

I first heard about Xanadu in Margaret River when one of our chefs went over to run their restaurant

and was raving about the wines. This is their Exmoor drive chardonnay which is fresh and creamy with

not too much oak.

8 MUSCADET LA GRAND RÉSERVE 2016 Sévre et Maine Sur Lie, Gadais Pere et Fils (France)

Great to have a proper Muscadet on the list again – this is a Sur Lie, it reminds me of the early days of

the Seafood and trips to Britany and plats of Fruits de Mer.

£30.00 £7.50

192 MONTES SPRING HARVEST SAUVIGNON BLANC 2017 Leyda Valley, (Chile)

Aromas of cut grass and green peppers – clean and crisp.

£30.00 £7.50

7 CAZAS NOVAS 2015 Vinho Verde (Portugal)

Vinho Verde’s are getting better and better – made using the local grape varieties avesso and

loureiro, very fresh apple and citrus aromas – delicate clean and crisp.

£33.00 £8.20

10 VIOGNIER LE CHOIX DE VOLTAIRE 2015 Foncalieu, Pays d’Oc (France)

This peach scented Viognier is perfectly pitched, soft-ripe & delicious.

£35.00 £8.70

12 SNAPPER ROCK MARLBOROUGH SAUVIGNON BLANC 2017 (New Zealand)

I find many New Zealand sauvignons to be almost oppressively fruit laden. Snapper rock though is

much more subtle & at a recent tasting we liked it best because of its good balance of leafy flavour

with a pleasing round finish.

£36.00 £9.00

9 GROS MANSENG-SAUVIGNON VIN DE PAYS DES CÔTES DE GASCOGNE 2016 Alain Brumont (France)

This blend of gros manseng & sauvignon blanc is ideal summer drinking, the sauvignon gives it a leafy,

citrus nose backed by the gros manseng which adds a touch of melon & honey on the finish. We’ve

been listing Alain Brumont’s wines for years, Madiran, Chateau Montus & the lovely sweet wine

Pacherenc, he’s one of the best in the South West.

£37.00 £9.20

13 RICK STEIN’S WHITE BURGUNDY 2015 Julien Collovray (France)

We blend this wine ourselves and this year we were looking for elegance, roundness and a bit of flesh

to match a variety of our classic dishes. We absolutely love it and hope you will too.

£42.00 £10.50

28 SYLVANER RÉSERVE 2010 Rolly Gassmann, Alsace (France)

his journey through Spain. A delicious, juicy and ripe Spanish red made from garnacha.

£26.00 £6.50

16 BELLAFIORE 2016 Rosso Delle Venezie (Italy)

Made in similar way to Valpolicella Ripasso where they dry the grapes before fermenting, resulting in a

really velvet rich red with lots of ripe cherry fruit – very soft and moreish

£32.00 £8.00

18 CHATEAU MALEDAN SUPÉRIEUR 2012 Bordeaux (France)

This reminds me of an atmospheric bistro called La Tupina in Bordeaux; just exactly the right wine to go

with a steak or a plate of cheese.

£33.00 £8.20

17 CABRIZ 2014 Dão (Portugal)

We really like this red wine from Cabriz, made from touriga-nacional, tinta-roriz & alfrocherio, it has gorgeously juicy fruit & is very gluggable.

£34.00 £8.50

21 CÔTES DU RHÔNE 2015 Domaine Lafond (France)

Thick, dark and full of mature fruit, as the late great Bill Baker our wine advisor for 30 years, might have

said “Proper Côtes du Rhône”.

£36.00 £9.00

20 MCHENRY/HOHNEN ROCKY ROAD SHIRAZ 2013 Margaret River (Australia)

A seductive bouquet of fresh blueberries with a velvety structure & a fragrant white pepper finish.

This lovely white is made from savagnin which is native to the Jura region. As with many wines from the

Jura it’s made with a slight oxidative edge which gives it a beautiful, nutty, savoury, quality. Memories

for me of a trip long ago, I had discovered an old country under the alps of limestone houses smelling

of woodsmoke and rich gamy stews.
