Describe the background of your business. Also, what is your background?

Established in 2010 with an aim to revolutionize the diamond industry’s use of recycled product, White Pine Trading LLC is one of the world’s leading recycled diamond and fine jewelry companies. The company trades certified diamonds, parceled diamonds, fine jewelry, and watches through a variety of distribution channels, including monthly auctions of parceled diamonds at global diamond centers, just-in-time delivery of certified stones, and road delivery of jewelry and watch products. The company’s experts also offer a range of consulting and appraisal services to financial services companies and the jewelry industry. Today, White Pine Trading has offices in New York, Birmingham (UK), Mumbai, and Tokyo.

Andrew Brown, President and Chief Financial Officer of White Pine Trading LLC, graduated from UCE Birmingham, UK with a B.A. (Hons) in Accounting and went on to gain an MBA in Finance & Accounting from NYU Stern and an MS in Real Estate Development at NYU.

Andrew is responsible for the consumer buying division, the melée auction division, the colored diamond division, financial operations, strategic initiatives and other day-to-day management duties.

Spectra asked Andrew to tell us more about White Pine Trading and give us some insight into the business.

Describe your typical client to us and how you provide them with added value.

With a diverse portfolio of services, we are privileged to work with a wide range of audiences, including independent and chain jewelry retailers, diamond dealers, wholesalers, manufacturers, refiners, gold buyers, and other stakeholders within the diamond and jewelry industries.

We provide added value through our services, along with access to unique product and distribution channels that maximize profits for our clients. This access can be attributed to our unique method of sourcing and our constant activity within the global marketplace.

Tell us about your team.

White Pine employs over 70 individuals to operate its core divisions. On staff, we have a range of professionals, including diamond buyers and sorters, jewelry buyers, road and telephone sales people and sales managers, marketing, financial and technical executives. Dependent upon the division and its operations, the typical workday of an employee will vary greatly.

How do you differentiate yourself from your competitors?

White Pine has built a strong brand in various facets of the diamond industry. We do things a little differently. We are considered the urban diamond mine, sourcing a great deal of our diamonds and jewelry from the public.

We are pioneers in building a scalable, recycled diamond business and have developed White Pine into a brand name within the diamond industry in just five years.

How has being a member of the American Gem Society helped you and your business?

On both the trade and consumer side of our business, client protection is a priority. Through our AGS membership, our brand is associated with the country’s most reputable trade group dedicated to consumer protection.
