So what is Combined Cycle? So what is Combined Cycle?

• Combined Cycle (CCGT), combines two thermodynamic cycles, Brayton Cycle (gas) & Rankine Cycle (steam).

• In a CCGT, a GT generator generates electricity and the waste heat is used to make steam to generate additional electricity via a steamused to make steam to generate additional electricity via a steam turbine; this last step enhances the efficiency of electricity generation.

• Open Cycle (OCGT) utilise one thermodynamic cycle, Brayton cycle (gas).

• OCGT utilise the energy their fuel generates to power a turbine. The remaining heat from combustion is exhausted. While not the most efficient, it does give the plant flexibility to cope with instantaneous demands.
