Whiskered Secrets
December 5, 2014 Volume 1, Issue 21
*
It’s true that we’d all like to be adopted—what orphan
doesn’t want that? But right now, this minute, we’d
like a breather from the concrete and the bars, and all
the barking and meowing. Could you give us a home
for the holidays? We won’t ask for much—a warm
blanket, a couple treats maybe, somebody to cuddle
and play with. Grateful doesn’t even begin to cover
how that would make us feel.
The shelter would provide all the food we’d need. If
you share your home, we’ll provide all the love and
admiration you can handle. From our point of view, it’s
a win-win situation.
Come to the shelter today and choose to take one of
us out of here. I guarantee that any of us will
volunteer to ride home with you. Have a heart. Help us
make some holiday memories. Do it today.
Pleeeeeease.

Farley and I had our hair cut
yesterday. It was about time.
My fur was covering my eyes,
and I just know that some
squirrels and kitties outside
were sneaking by when I didn’t
see them. No more of that!!!
Dear Feebie,
My humans are driving me crazy. They jingle car keys
and then don’t take me anyplace. They pretend to
throw a ball but secretly hide it behind their back. They
take out two treats, give me one and then act like I can’t
count. How can I teach them to stop this insanity?
Buster
Dear Buster,
I bet that you are a good dog, that you sit and stay
and greet your humans at the door every time they
come home. You probably wait every day for them to
play or for treats. Let’s face it, humans carry a crazy
gene. They seem to think that we like this type of
behavior, and since they don’t speak our language, we
can’t make them stop. I guess that the best you can do
is love them anyway and secretly laugh when they act
up. Or you could tear up tissues. That’s what Farley
does. Good luck.
Love, Feebie
Dear Feebie,
I am a senior cat. I live with an elderly woman and it’s
a perfect match. Because I have her I am not lonely,
and I have lots of mental stimulation and so does she. I
don’t require training like a dog, and I don’t have to go
outside. I am soft and fuzzy, and she spends time
petting me. Because she lost her husband, she needs a
companion, and I am happy to provide love and
affection. I think that we will both live longer and be
happier because we’re together. Don’t you think that a
cat is a perfect pet for an older human?
Frieda
Dear Frieda,
Yep. I would even give you kisses if I could.
Love, Feebie
Have you heard the

Come to the
Holiday Market
Friday and Saturday,
December 12, 13
Oconee County Senior Center
10-2 Fri, 11-4 Sat.
Dex is a 1 year old blue bully pit with a really
hard luck story. He was officially abandoned to
the care of OCAS on Monday with an
excruciating case of mange. He has until
December 16 to find a foster or adoptive family
that will help him. He needs frequent bathing
with medicated shampoo and dosing with
antibiotics. His medicine is already available.
The problem is that the shelter cannot handle
his care.
Demodectic mange, the type that Dex has, is
transmitted directly from a mother to puppies in
the first weeks of life through mites. Some
puppies are immune to the mites and never
develop lesions. Others, like Dex, are not so
lucky.
Dex is losing hope. He is a sweet, loveable
baby who deserves better than he’s gotten.
Until he came to the shelter, his condition was
neglected, so it has spread. It is not contagious to
other pets and it is treatable, but it will take a lot of
love and attention.
His only chance is with someone who will devote time
to his treatment. If you are that special someone,
please, please, please contact OCAS today.
Dex is running out of time...
The Holiday Market at the Oconee
County Senior Center in Veteran’s Park
is next weekend, December 12 and 13.
Come and visit our Santa Paws corner,
have your pet’s photo taken and shop for
the perfect gift for those animal lovers on
your list, and maybe for those perfect
animals as well!!! Stop by anytime 10-2
Friday or 11-4 on Saturday.
Our pack walks have become wildly popular and
we are hoping to expand them from once to twice a
month!!! Join us for our next one on January 6.
Contact Brooke Daniels,
[email protected], for more
information.
January 16 is a huge deadline for animals currently
housed at the shelter. All cats who are spayed and
neutered MUST find homes by that date. Many dogs
are also in danger. Fosters and adoptors are
needed NOW. Contact Ashton Keegan at 719-231-
2686 or Officer Crystal Berisko at OCAS if you can
help.
All of these sweet faces will walk in the Watkinsville
Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 6. Another
thing they have in common is that all of them are close to
the end of their stay in the shelter and need homes
desperately. Take one home for the holidays, foster one,
or take a leap and love one forever. Each of these
babies is deserving of your help. Which one is yours?
