THE GENE SUMMERS COLLECTION

In 2014, Wright Now partnered with the Estate of Gene

Summers to present over 100 works in bronze, designed

and fabricated by Summers throughout the last 25 years

of his life. Tactile and sculptural, soulful and timeless,

these limited edition, functional forms align seamlessly

with Wright’s dedication to bringing outstanding design

to our dynamic audience.

CATALOG OF DESIGN FALL 2016

1928

Born in San Antonio, Texas on July 31st

1949

Graduates with a degree in architecture from Texas A&M

1950

Begins his 16 year career as supervising architect

for Mies van der Rohe while still a student

1951

Graduates with a Masters in Architecture from the Illinois

Institute of Technology

1958

Seagram Building in New York completed under

Summers’ supervision

1963

Joins C.F. Murphy Associates as partner in charge of design

1970

Summers’ designed McCormick Place opens

in Chicago

1973

Moves to California and partners with Phyllis Lambert developing and restoring landmark buildings like the

Biltmore Hotel, Los Angeles

1985

Moves to France to pursue his love of art and sculpture

1989

Returns to Chicago to serve as Dean of IIT’s College

of Architecture

1993

Retires and moves back to northern California continuing to design and produce works in bronze

2011

Dies at the age of 83 survived by his wife Jacci and four children,

Blake, Scott, Karen and Ali

THE LIFE OF GENE SUMMERS


All works are created using the ancient method of lost wax

casting. This method captures and replicates the most precise

details of the artist’s original model. Labor intensive, this

method requires the original sculpture to be duplicated

in wax each time a new casting is poured.

Gene’s passion was in the making.

Born out of a life in architecture

and then moving to the scale

of furniture and sculpture, he found

new ways of both using his hands

as well as the quality

of material that comes with this

more personal scale. Gene was

about the enrichment of life

that comes with seeing the

product of your efforts — visible,

tangible, everyday. He was always

interested in knowing the best

way of making, whether it was the

finest tools in his hand, the age-old

weavers of Aubusson, or the skill

of casting bronze in Walla Walla.

HOW TO ORDER

Cast to order, unless the work is unique, average lead

time is 10–12 weeks. Six main patinas are available:

Burgundy Black, Wire Wheeled, Grey, Italian Brown, Black,

and Traditional. Silver plating and custom patinas are

available at an additional cost. Works will be delivered

directly to Wright for inspection and forwarded on through

a carrier of your choosing or one from our preferred list.
