We are planning something a little bit different for March…. Wherever you are on your fai journey, you are welcome here!So announces a local community church. We’re sure these are good and kind people and have no wish to disparage them but we are also aware that many consider “faith” to be a virus. “Faith is not a virtue; faith is an epistemology”. As Peter Boghossian says in his recent book, A Manual for Creating Atheists, faith is a very unreliable epistemology. Of course for this criticism to be compelling we have to assume people value truth and reliable ways of discovering truth and knowledge. It’s trivial, but surely we could all agree that even the most faith soaked human would use a tape measure to measure a window for curtains rather than praying or asking their dog. This month we will have a conversation about our own epistemologies and how we came to be humanist/atheist or wherever we are on our knowledge journeys. We may also have time for a short video. Please come prepared to share your story with the group. Should HAMBA sign on to the Monterey County Against Fracking campaign? Please share your comments during our March meeting
