A favourite old story with a faith twist: There’s a monk who is greatly trusted and loved in his community throughout a lifetime of dedicated service. At the end of his life, the Angels come for him and conduct him to the af- terlife. He quite enjoys the after- life—there is much there for him to do, because many still need his care, his counsel and his comfort. He is happy and fulfilled. A few weeks after his death, the Angels return for him, red-faced. “We’re so embarrassed,” the An- gels report, “You were destined for heaven, but we accidentally brought you to hell! We’ll bring you to heaven now.” The monk looked around him, realizing that this place so in need of love and comfort was indeed a less-than- heavenly place. The holy man nonetheless smilingly said, “…I think I’ll stay.” --That brief illustration challenges some perceptions of the Christian life. Because it reveals that faith is not selfish. It’s not about some imagined heavenly reward. It’s about love, today. We are humble and caring because love is its own satisfaction, its own reward. And faith is about bringing something of Heaven to the world around us. North Bay is neither heaven nor hell, although it surely has ele- ments of both. At Trinity we sweeten our community’s heavenly flavour by bringing laughter and fellowship, music and service, out- reach, cooperation, and compas- sion. I pray that you’ll see the joy, feel the faith, witness the caring, and decide, “…I think I’ll stay.” See you on Sunday, Trinity United Church Fall 2015 Newsletter From the Minister’s Desk: Where do you Want to Be? Message from the Chair

Welcome back to everyone. As summer is windingdown, I hope and pray

that it was a good one. Some of usthis summer faced various chal-lenges, from health issues to dealingwith the heat, still others had an op-portunity to travel to see family orexplore other countries, and still oth-ers took the opportunity for somedown time at home. However, it wasspent, I hope you had an opportunityto regroup, recharge and relax.

The first half of 2015 was reallybusy for Trinity, from King Lear, toDream On, to Vacation Bible Camp,to The Joyband, The Joyful Bellsand all the other activities in be-tween. We are so very thankful tohave such talented people in ourcongregation.

Before I go any farther, I would liketo say welcome to the new ViceChair Kirk Ready. Thank you foranswering the call to take on this

position. I know that you will bringlots of knowledge and church expe-rience to Trinity.

If I can do some good today,If I can help along life’s way,If I can something helpful say,Lord, show me how.If I can aid one in distress,If I can make one burden less,If I can spread more happiness,Lord, show me how.

The main purpose of the M&PCommittee is to function as a con-sultative, intermediary and support-ive body on temporal mattersaffecting the people of Trinity aswell as the Ministers of Trinity andthe staff of Trinity. In this capacity,we are responsible for personnelmatters, for the function and super-vision of all staff and also as asounding board for both the congre-gation and staff should issues arisein the temporal functioning ofTrinity internally or in the widercommunity.

Our committee believes that Trinityis indeed very fortunate in havingthe present members of staff andministry that are an integral part ofour church family today. We arealso pleased with the dedicationand commitment of our congrega-tion as they volunteer for our nu-merous committees and projects.Anyone having any questions, sug-gestions, or comments concerningthe aforementioned areas is invitedto approach any of the M&P Com-mittee members.

The Trinity Testosterone Men’sCanoe Adventure, 2015

As in years past, late June saw 14 Trinity guys venture on a church men’swilderness canoe trip. We always eat well, and this time around it was themosquitoes of the Kukagami area who we in turn fed! Besides the facts thatwe enjoyed God’s creation, meaningful worship, hard work and great food, the participants are sworn to secrecy—so you’re not likely to get many de-tails out of them! Special thanks to Rick Calhoun, John Roberts, and DaveMcKenney for their time, organization, and expertise. Participation in “TheTrinity Testosterone” is always number-limited, so get your name on theJune 2016 list extra-early next year …and see you on the water!

Trinity United Church is not only a great place to meet God in wor-ship and through friends, it’s also a Top-Secret Spy Training Acad-emy—or at least it was for a week in late July when we fed, entertained, and taught over 50 children per day, providing a diverseprogram of fun and faith engagement. This year we learned from someof television’s greatest detectives—and out-detected them with our bib-lical know-how and razor-sharp Spy-skills. There was art, music andgames, drama and challenge, food and fun. Particular thanks to coordi-nators Lisa Blais, Melissa Peddie, and Marcel McDonald. Many manythanks to all of the other Trinity secret agents who made “VBC” possi-ble—you helped with supplies and food, with passion and care, withlove and commitment. What a difference you make for the youngestmembers of our church family!

In the last few months, we havepresented 5 baby blankets to thosewho were baptized. We have hadone Sunday when some shawlswere blessed. A few people havepicked up shawls for adults in needof compassion and lovingthoughts. There are always someavailable at the church. Just ask atthe office for information aboutthem.

It is our pleasure to provide theseblankets for those needing comfortand encouragement. It is an out-reach programme that has beenwell received by the people who at-tend Trinity.
