Luke 2:1-7
The Birth of Jesus
1In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. 2(This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) 3And everyone went to their own town to register. 4So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David.
Luke 2:1-7
5He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. 6While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.
Amen

Mother laid her baby In a manger for His bed,
Mary was that Mother mild, Jesus Christ her Little Child

Once In Royal David's City
He came down to earth from heaven, Who is God and Lord of all,
And his shelter was a stable, And his cradle was a stall
With the poor and mean and lowly, Lived on earth our Saviour holy.

And our eyes at last shall see Him, Through His own redeeming love; For that Child, so dear and gentle,
Is our Lord in heaven above; And He leads His children on,
To the place where He is gone.

Today marks the final day of the Advent season. We end with the lighting of the Christ Candle, which is symbolically placed in the centre of the wreath.
We gather to celebrate the birth of the One who is the Light of the World, the Prince of Peace, Home to the homeless, Refuge for the weary.
We have explored what it is to wait expectantly for the best Christmas gift the world has ever known. We have acknowledged that the world needs the hope, joy, love, and peace of Jesus Christ—now more than ever.
Christ is our hope and our salvation. Christ brings meaning and hope for a world short on both.
We light these four candles again, to remind us that Jesus is the light of the world, and comes into the darkness of our lives to bring newness, life and hope. It also reminds us that we are called to be a light to the world as we reflect the light of God’s grace to others. remembering how we have waited on love— and celebrating that love has not let us down.
We light the Christ Candle recognizing that Christ is the centre of all. The Light of the World was born today. His name is Jesus, Emmanuel, God with us.
Our waiting is over.
8And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.
Luke 2:1-7
12This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
13Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
14“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favour rests.”
Luke 2:1-7
15When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”
16So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child,
Luke 2:1-7
18and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.
Amen

The Magi Visit the Messiah
1After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem 2and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” 3When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him.
Matthew 2:1-12
4When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born. 5 “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has written:
6“‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.’”
Matthew 2:1-12
7Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. 8He sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him.”
9After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was.
Matthew 2:1-12
10When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. 11On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. 12And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.
Amen
Matthew 2:1-12

25Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him. 26It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Messiah.
Luke 2:25-32
27Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required, 28Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying:
Luke 2:25-32
29“Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you may now dismiss your servant in peace. 30For my eyes have seen your salvation, 31which you have prepared in the sight of all nations: 32a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.”

Matthew 2: 1- 6 Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea,
during the reign of King Herod. About
that time some wise men from eastern
lands arrived in Jerusalem, asking,
“Where is the newborn king of the
Jews? We saw his star as it rose, and
we have come to worship him.”
King Herod was deeply disturbed when
he heard this, as was everyone in
Jerusalem.
He called a meeting of the leading priests
and teachers of religious law and asked,
“Where is the Messiah supposed to be
born?”
“In Bethlehem in Judea,” they said, “for
this is what the prophet wrote:
„And you, O Bethlehem in the land of
Judah, are not least among the ruling
cities of Judah, for a ruler will come from
you who will be the shepherd for my
people Israel.‟”
