Super Community
Spirit ShowcaseJoin the excitement and fun of a once-in-a-lifetime
event to highlight 100 local charities.
• The Crowne Plaza Suffern-Mahwah is oneof only 69 properties within the Americas chosen
from the IHG system of more than 4,600 hotels
for achieving the highest levels of excellence in
all aspects of operation — from quality to cus-
tomer satisfaction. A 2013 Torchbearer trophy, the
company's symbol of excellence, will be on per-
manent display at the hotel.
"This hotel embodies the heart of our brand
promise and continues to make IHG properties
known and admired throughout the world," said
Kirk Kinsell, President - the Americas, IHG.
Crowne Plaza Suffern-Mahwah is a top hotel in
the IHG North America Region for Overall Guest
Satisfaction. The hotel is also a recipient of the
2013 Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor,
which also designated the hotel a GreenLeader for
its energy efficiency efforts.
Joshua T. Goldstein, Executive VP at The Lyn-
mark Group, owner and manager of Crowne Plaza
Suffern-Mahwah, added, “The Lynmark Group is
dedicated to the ultimate hospitality experience.
Crowne Plaza has truly become a jewel in Rock-
land County and we are proud of our management
and staff for continually raising the bar and bring-
ing home this great distinction from IHG.”
• Business owners should develop an exit/suc-cession plan early on if they want to get the max-
imum value for their business, according to Frank
Pawlowski, CPA, co-managing director of
Hunter Group CPA LLC, commenting in Com-
merce Magazine’s 2013-2014 Best Practices
Guide. Commerce Magazine is a publication of
the Commerce and Industry Association of New
Jersey (CIANJ).
Pawlowski’s comments focused on what busi-
ness owners must know when preparing to sell a
business. As Co-Managing Director of Hunter
Group, Pawlowski addresses the accounting, au-
diting and advisory needs of closely held and fam-
ily business clients. He is a member of the firm’s
family-owned and managed business team.
“It is an honor to be included with others who
are recognized as thought leaders and heroes,”
Pawlowski said. “Commerce Magazine is one of
the state’s most influential business publications.”
• Phillip E. Goldstein, managing partner ofGoldstein Lieberman & Company LLC, wel-
comes Bonnie Madsen, CPA, to the region’s
largest and fastest growing cer-
tified public accounting and
business advisory firm on De-
cember 2.
Ms. Madsen previously con-
tributed her extensive expertise
in accounting to a company—
Laura Ingraffea CPA—which
recently merged with Goldstein
Lieberman & Company LLC. She brings over
two decades of experience in accounting, business
and tax preparation.
Licensed to practice in New York and New Jer-
sey, she is a graduate of Trenton State College.
• Home Video Studio of Hasbrouck Heights
recently took home four international awards for
achievement in video at the recent Home Video
Studio Getaway in Las Vegas.
The video studio, owned and operated by Peter
Gallo, won four Hanley Awards which are the
Home Video Studios’ version of the Oscars, rec-
ognizing achievement in the industry. The award
is named for Robert Hanley, the founder and pres-
ident of Home Video Studio, the largest interna-
tional video production services franchise with
studios in the U.S., Canada, Sweden and Finland.
“We couldn’t be more pleased that our work was
recognized by our peers,” said Gallo. “We strive
to produce the best work
for our customers and it’s
nice to know that other pro -
fessional video studio own-
ers are impressed as well.”
The local studio won for
the Best TV/Web Commer-
cial, Best Use of Motion
Graphics and Best Sports
Scholarship. The studio
also earned the Seven Stars
Award for Excellence, the
highest honor a studio can
receive.

HIGHER EDUCATION:THE FUTURE
DR. PETER MERCERPRESIDENTRAMAPO COLLEGE
Are traditional expectations of higher education still
valid? Join us as we compare the current status
of higher education in the US with that of other
countries. We have almost 4,500 degree-granting
institutions and 20.3 million students enrolled. We spend
more on higher education than almost any other devel-
oped nation, but – based on graduation rates –
we’re more inefficient.
