When There Is No Foundation
Every Family Faces Trials• It tests and reveals the hearts that make
up each family.• It reveals the need for God to be present
through seemingly impossible moments.• For many families God is just a part of their
family, or worst, is not present at all.
“Most of the kids we’re seeing today in most courts are kids in which we have
broken families, most of them have single parents, most of those are mothers and
there are poor or very weak problem solving skills, not just among the young
people but also their parents.” Judge Steven Teske,
Clayton County (GA) Juvenile Court Chief
SYMPTOMS OF ‘FAMILIES ON THE EDGE’
Lacking: Healthy Communication
• Silence• Arguing• Hateful words
What’s Missing?
Self-Absorbed• With work• With recreation• With friends
What’s Missing?
James 3:14–16“But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast
and lie against the truth. This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic. For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion
and every evil thing are there.”
Addressing symptoms DOES NOT
fix the problem, it just masks it, like a Band Aid
The Answer Is Not• A quick ‘look up’ for Bible references on
“healthy communication” or learning how to be less “self absorbed”
• The answer is not…• Family seminars• Family workshops• Family retreats
Jesus Christ
What’s Missing?
Jesus Christ Is The Foundation• The world doesn’t realize it, but He is the
answer. Ephesians 2:19-22• He is the first answer to all questions. • He is the final answer to all questions.• Without Him, all other answers are nothing
more than band-aid solutions. Cp. Matt. 7:21ff
Jesus is Foundational
• This seems so obvious that many professing Christians forget Him in favor of other more ‘practical’ solutions.• Just as a church of God’s people can be
guilty forgetting this foundational truth, so it can a family of Christians: Rev. 2:4-5
What (Who) Is Your Family’s
Foundation?
