TRAINING IN LIBERIA
eLEARNING AFRICA CONFERENCE 2017The UNODC Global eLearning Programme participated in the
"eLearning Africa Conference 2017", which is the largest gathering of
eLearning and ICT supported education and training professionals in
Africa. The conference took place in Balaclava, Mauritius from the
27th to 29th of September 2017. UNODC was represented by Mr.
Kamal Toure, National Project Officer (E-learning) based in Dakar,
Senegal.
Many workshops and plenary events were held during the three-day
conference. This was an opportunity for the Project Officer to
network and build stronger partnership with actors and counterparts
from all over Africa and introduce them to UNODC`s latest
developments in eLearning. A demonstration of the new UNODC
eLearning platform was provided to many participants. As a result,
some national training institutions and agencies have expressed an
interest in acquiring UNODC's eLearning services.
EXPERT`S CORNER:
What do you do for the Global eLearning Programme?
I am in charge of the production process of the modules. I coordinate
the process with the IT team that are responsible for the technical side
of production and subject matter experts who are responsible for the
substantive content.
What is the most important part of the production process?
Every single aspect of the production process is important. However, I
pay particular attention to the quality assurance (QA) phase. An
effective QA programme is often the difference between a high-end and
a low-end training course. All of our modules undergo a process of
rigorous quality assurance, ensuring that United Nations and
international standards and best practices have been adhered to.
What are the UNODC Global eLearning Programme goals for the future?
At the strategic level, our goal is to create stronger relationships at the inter-regional and inter-agency level,
thereby promoting our programme and leveraging available resources in training and capacity building to
provide the best service to our clients and users. At the technical level, the goal of the programme is to move, in
the next few years, towards mLearning (Mobile learning) and virtual reality learning, as well as continue to
provide high quality eLearning courses.

TRAINING IN LIBERIA
LIBERIA – An offline training course for 80 National Liberian
Officers was held in September 2017 at the Liberia National
Police Training Academy (LNPTA) using the "Mobile Training
Units" provided by the Global eLearning Programme. The
specialised training was organised to strengthen Liberia's
national capacity to counter drug trafficking, smuggling of
migrants, among other issues that currently affect the
country. Due to the success of this training , additional
training training is already planned for the Liberia National
Police and other national security agencies.
UNODC GLOBAL eLEARNING PROGRAMME & AGENDA 2030 FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
UNODCs Global eLearning Programme supports the
implementation of Agenda 2030 for Sustainable
Development, “a plan of action for people, planet
and prosperity”, with over 400 modules integrated
into eLearning courses on a diverse range of
human security and health challenges such as
wildlife crime, human trafficking, gender-based
violence and other, criminal investigations, as well
as promoting justice, human rights and
international cooperation. Our training courses are
designed by UNODC subject matter experts to
address these challenges and are being delivered
online and offline across the world in line with
United Nations standards and norms and other
relevant international instruments.
The eLearning Programme contributes especially to
the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals
5 (Good Health and Well-Being), 8 (Decent Work
and Economic Growth), 10 (Reduced Inequalities),
16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) and 17
(Partnerships).
Investment in e-Learning is cost-effective
and contributes to sustainable knowledge
transfer as part of a blended learning approach.
Incorporation of eLearning into projects and
programmes helps to ensure standardisation of
UNODC training, including mainstreaming of
human rights and gender into all courses.
