What’s Your Health and Wellness?
Health vs. Wellness
What is the difference between health and wellness?
Health: Health is the combination of physical, mental/emotional and social well-being.
What does it mean to be healthy? Being healthy means striving to be the best you can be at any given time.
Health vs. Wellness
A person with a balanced life is said to have a high degree of wellness.
Wellness: is an overall state of well-being, or total health.
Overall, in order to achieve wellness it is a lifelong commitment to physical, mental/emotional, and social health.
Promoting YOUR Health
What you decide to do everyday affects your life. Everyone has habits whether they are good or bad, which can affect your life.
Your habits or lifestyle factors are your personal behaviors that relate to the way you live. These help determine your level of health.
A key to your wellness is prevention—practicing health and safety habits to remain free of disease and injury. Such as wearing a seat belt or applying sunscreen are a few examples.

Health Education
Do you think there is an importance to health education? Why or Why not?
Health education provides accurate health information to help people make healthy choices.
The main goal is to provide people with tools that will help people live long, energetic and productive lives.
Are you health literate?
Everyone needs to become health literate.
Health literacy refers to a person’s capacity to learn about and understand basic health information and services and use these resources to promote his or her health and wellness.
1. a critical thinker and problem solver-get health information before making a decision and knows how to make responsible, health choices.
2. responsible, productive citizen-someone who acts in a healthy manner, who chooses safe, healthful, and legal behaviors.
3. self-directed learner-person who has developed evaluation criteria for health information.
4. effective communicator -someone who is able to express his or her health knowledge in a variety of ways
