What's Up Willowville?
Dear Willowville Parents and Students,
February is “Heart Healthy” month! The Willowville community has supported our service project to raise money for the
American Heart Association over the past several years. We are pleased to continue this tradition with our “Jump for Heart”
activities led by Mrs. Ranshaw, a retired physical education teacher. In conjunction with this project, the grade levels have
waged a “Penny War” to contribute to the American Heart Association and the Katie Haumesser Fund (Katie was a Willowville
Speech Pathologist who was tragically killed by a drunk driver).
The Media Center is now open! Staff and volunteers were trained on the procedures to check books out and back in. The next
week, our staff trained the students. The elated expressions on the children’s face were definitely a joy to see when they
walked away with a book in their hand to take home. I would like to ask you to continue to work with us by reading with your
child, asking about the book they are reading, and helping them understand the importance of taking care of and returning their
book. Stay tuned for your “BOGO” (buy one get one) Book Fair in case you are interested in donating brand new books for next
school year; a wish list will be provided.
Thank you again to our PTO and the volunteers who have supported our clay art project. We would also like to thank
Mrs. Pellegrini, a retired art teacher, who has given her time and talent for our children to have this opportunity. The students
have thoroughly enjoyed learning different techniques and creating their masterpiece. The finished project should be coming
home soon!
I can’t believe the school year is half over! Your continued support at home is greatly appreciated but we still have half a year to
make sure our children our progressing and learning. Please read with your child, set aside time for homework and help them
study. All of our students have login information for our Reading Street program (www.pearsonsuccessnet.org ) and our Go Math
program (www.thinkcentral.org ). Thank you for checking the Friday folders, reading the weekly e-mail updates and
communicating with your child’s teacher.
Working together we will continue to see our children grow and succeed!
Sincerely,
Michelle Kennedy

Board names Superintendent
The West Clermont Board of Education has named Dr. Keith Kline as the district’s next Superintendent.
Kline replaces retiring Superintendent, Dr. Gary Brooks. Currently, Kline serves as the District’s Assistant
Superintendent.
Doug Young, West Clermont Board of Education President said, "Dr. Kline is highly qualified to be our next
Superintendent. He has experience in Secondary, Middle, and Primary education, as well as with aligning
local instructional standards to state standards.” With a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Miami
University, Kline led Lakota East High School to the highest ever Performance Index in the district’s
history.
According to Kline, the West Clermont District must make sure that all our students are college and/or
career ready. “As an educational institution, it is critical that we prepare our students for their future,”
Kline said. “I know our staff will continue to work hard to assure what we offer is relevant to the world
our young people will face after graduating from Amelia or Glen Este,” he added.
Kline also addressed the district’s financial stress. “While I am pleased that the board has decided to
postpone putting an issue on the ballot until November, I believe that it is absolutely critical that we come
together as a community to assure our school district has a sustainable financial future," Kline commented.
"In the last six months that Dr. Kline has been working for our District, he has designed a plan to save
$800,000 through Central Office reorganization, comprehensive substitute services and a reorganization
of the middle and high schools, Young said. "He knows how to get the job done.”
