Meet REBECCA FISHERPitt Meadows Artist-In-Residence
When Rebecca Fisher became Pitt Meadows Artist-In-Residence this year, she realized that the time ahead would be exciting and maybe even ground breaking, as she works towards engaging the community in which she lives, in a fun project that would be of benefi t to everyone, no matter whether young or young at heart. The Community Engagement Project is a Reading Yurt, that will be the collaborative work of the artist, Rebecca Fisher and all community members who are interested in being part of this wonderful venture! When completed, the Reading Yurt will hold small groups of children, maybe half a dozen at a time, who will enter this very special space to sit and read. Children love making tents out of anything they can get their hands on, so just imagine how involved they will feel when they actually make a piece of this yurt and are able to see their work displayed in the completed project!
We are coming together to create our own, individual and unique piece of felt, from local sheep’s wool, that will later
become a very special part of the larger piece that will be the skin of the yurt. We will be carding the wool and in January/February (2015) we will start the felting process. When completed the Reading Yurt will travel to various places, including schools, libraries etc.
project.
Come and join Rebecca at her funky, eclectic, textile studio in the beautiful Osprey Village, by the Fraser River, in Pitt Meadows. The studio is part of this lovely village and has a cosy, antiquey feel to it. The furniture is chalk painted by Rebecca using paint she makes herself. You will see all kinds of textiles from printed pantyhose to leggings and eco-printed scarves and hats (see the owl
for the children. You will see unique textiles for the home and the body. Come sit and have a cup of tea, bring your knitting or hang out in the studio and watch the artist working with various textiles. You can also take one on one tuition or maybe come as a group and learn a new

“We love What’s On Magazine at Blenz in Maple Ridge as it epitomizes all that is good about shopping locally and the amazing community that is Maple Ridge and brings the both together in an entertaining and informative read. Our customers love it.“
We run several functions every year and often advertise under "events" and in the advertisement section of the Whats On Ridge Meadows Edition. We get great turn outs and always ask "what brought you to this event" "Whats On" magazine is the number one answer!! The magazine has a great shelf life and it is at so many locations around the city that we get great exposure. Thanks What's On Ridge Meadows, I love the layout and the eye catching cover!!

On March 4, 2015, PLEA employees, SD42, local business and other partners all work together to provide local high school grads with ‘formal attire’ so that they can attend their graduation festivities
otherwise impossible for these grads to attend their ceremonies.
This event would not be possible without in-kind donations of gently used grad dresses, men’s suits/tuxedos, shoes and accessories. Just as valuable is the donation of people’s time. Having hairdressers, seamstresses, make-up artists, photographers and volunteers on the day, all help to make the students feel their best. Want to be a part of this great initiative? Contact Michelle Cherak on 604-476-2821 or email [email protected].
Prefer to donate cash? That’s great too. Organizing an event like this does not happen free of charge. Any money you donate will be put towards hiring and decorating the venue, providing snacks to participants and volunteers as well as promoting the event across local high schools and businesses who want to play a part. It’s easy to donate, just go to our website: www.plea.ca and click ‘Donate’. Make sure you allocate your gift to Putting on the Glitz when you do so.

THE CO-OPERATORS22971 Dewdney Trunk Road, Maple Ridge

Clint Callison, Owner/Operator of The Co-operators at Lougheed and 207th Street has seen the difference between buying insurance “anywhere” and buying The Co-operators way. The customers see the difference too.
“We’re interested in making sure you have the right coverage at the right price, for the right reasons,” Clint said. “It’s more than a transaction. We establish relationships with our customers to last
to ensure the highest levels of customer satisfaction.”
Clint has been in the industry for many years but made the decision to be a Co-operators owner because the company does things differently, and better.
A wide range of things setThe Cooperators apart:1. Co-operators advisors exclusively sell from the vast line up of
Co-operators insurance products
2. Claims are managed in-house by The-Cooperators – the same people you see for your policies are going to support you if a claim happens and you need honest, accurate, caring advice
3. A peer panel to provide binding arbitration on disputed claims (the only such panel in the industry)
“While we look at your overall portfolio every two or three years,” Clint said, “we also look at policies every year to make sure you are properly covered, not over covered and aren’t paying for something you don’t need.”“We represent the client. So it goes beyond a discussion of coverage. It may also include claims advice.”
The Co-operators is run in a way that puts people and their
being honest, open and caring for others,” Clint said. “Ours is a company run with honest and ethical values.”
Community involvement is an important aspect of those values and is illustrated through the company-wide Buckle Up Bear program for proper inspection and installation of car seats and
to become an Imagine Canada Caring Company. On a local stage, Clint sponsors Haney Horse and Hound 4H, local baseball teams, Cythera House and a number of other community oriented organizations.
“This is why we do what we do,” Clint said. “People are important to us. Each staff member is licensed, accredited and may carry degrees of specialization, but what really counts is how we treat people and how we take care of their insurance needs. We are here to help you protect everything that is important to you.”
