KIDGLOVZby Julie HuntReview by JESSICA MORRIS, 9 At first look this is not really a book Iwould choose at a library orbookshop as I prefer books aboutcats or adventure, such as spiritanimals and Harry Potter. But Iwould definitely recommend thisbook for people who like readingbooks with lots of pictures as theillustrations are excellent though
they are in black and white which looks a bit sad. The charactersare interesting. I liked the dog Hugo the most who was KidGlovz’sfaithful companion through the book. It made me feel a little sadbecause KidGlovz didn’t have enough food to eat or get enoughsleep. He lost three of his fingers and he was an orphan. I wouldprefer a happier story but I’m glad I kept reading. I have now readit four times. Ages 8-10. Published by Allen&Unwin. RRP $24.99
THE CLEO STORIES:A FRIEND AND A PETby Libby Gleeson and Freya
BlackwoodReview by SOPHIA FIELDEN, 6
This book has two stories. Thefirst is Cleo Makes a Friend. It’sraining outside and Cleo is
bored. She’s counting raindrops. She doesn’t have any friends to play withbecause they’re all busy. Her mumwants her to clean her room but shedoesn’t want to. Cleo likes to dress up
and is wearing a giraffe costume. I’mhappy when Cleo finds a friend in the
mirror after using her imagination. In thesecond story Cleo wants to find a pet.Her friend Nick has just got a new puppy
and Cleo wants one but her parents say no. It feels like all of herfriends have pets except for her. She’s sad but then she has anidea. She remembers the snails that were in the garden and putsfive of them in a box to keep as her pets. The pictures are reallynice in pencil and colours and I like the costumes that Cleo wears, especially her cat burglar one. I think girls and boys would like thisbook but mostly girls. Ages 5-8. Published by Allen&Unwin. RRP$16.99
DANDELIONSby Katrina McKelvey andKirrili LonerganReview by GRACIETOMLINSON, 5This book is about a younggirl who loves dandelions. Sheimagines all the magicalplaces dandelions go whenthey are blown in the wind. Iliked this book because it’sabout a girl playing with herdad. I enjoyed the partswhere she imagines wherethe puffballs go, especiallywhen they are up in the sky with the hot air balloons. Thepictures are very colourful and like paintings. This book made mefeel a little sad at the start, when the girl wanted her dandelionsto grow, but happy at the end. I think young girls who love natureand their dads would enjoy this book. Ages 4-8. Published by EKBooks. RRP $24.99
