Open Tuesday - Saturday 10am - 6pm | Closed Sunday & Monday

Here we go... into what we hope will be a lovely long summer.

There's a real buzz around at the moment and in between the Commonwealth Games and the Ryder Cup, we hope you can fit in some of our gigs or workshops.

We have our summer ceilidhs along with performances from NYJOS and great trad gigs from Jamie Smith's Mabon, with support from the Fèis Fhoirt Ceilidh Band as well as the powerful force that is Blazin' Fiddles, with their new line-up.

Into September, there is so much happening, with our library colleagues' events Wha's Like Us and Off the Page, not to mention Bloody Scotland and the Stirling Fringe.

To complement all this we have gigs ranging from rising indie stars Honeyblood to crazy veterans John Otway and Wild Willy Barrett.

Also in September don't miss the moving and revealing story of Paul Robeson as well as a special evening in The Albert Halls from the sublime Julie Fowlis, with support from piper Fred Morrison.

And good news, as we introduce our new Music Development Officer, Kenny Bates, who has already lined up some great gigs, including a new evening with a focus on songwriting as well as some great summer activities and watch the space for the return of an autumn fest at the end of November to take the place ofReLoaded Fest.

As always check or website or facebook for the most up to date announcements and ticket sales. Our next season of classses and workshops will be announced online soon.

See you at the Tolbooth soon.

Jamie Smith’s Mabon

Jamie Smith’s Mabon + Feis Fhoirt Ceilidh Trail BandFri 11 Jul, 8pm £13/£11The energetic sound of jigs and reels; or a graceful mazurka, an ecstatic muinera; a haunting Welsh-language love song or a driving, sing-along, fantasy epic - all are given the same refreshing, creative treatment as the band dances along the borders between Celtic heritage and contemporary sound.

“Exhilarating, just exhilarating.” Froots

How to get published:Yes, but will it sell?Wed 17 Sep, 7.30 - 9pm£12/£10With Lyndsey Fraser, Sara Hunt & Zoe Strachan

One of the basic pieces of advice to aspiring creative writers is ‘write what you know’, but what happens if what you know is only of interest to you and your cat?

Is it possible to engage the reader with even the most bizarre of subjects providing the writing is good enough? Or is it necessary to compromise and follow the trends?

Our three experienced panelists will guide aspiring writers through the dilemmas of writing material that is honest, original yet engaging.

Shang-A-Lang

Thu 25 Sep, 7.30pmThe Albert Halls£15/£14/£1216yrs+

Take a step back in time to the days of the Bay City Rollers, with loud fashions and, laugh out loud, adult humour.

Written by Catherine Johnson (writer of the hit musical Mamma Mia!), Shang-a-Lang

follows three flighty forty-something Scottish women on their way to a 70s revival weekend in Butlins, where the Bay City Rollers are playing.

They were all Rollerettes back in the day and decide it is time to recapture their youth, chase their unfulfilled dreams and have a ball while they do it.

Lauren tries to stay sober, Jackie tries to stay married and Pauline continues to search for her Woody.

Shang-a-Lang is the perfect girls’ night out laced with shocking laughs, warm tears and a fabulous soundtrack - a cross between a Scottish Shirley Valentine and Shameless.

John Otway

Fri 26 Sep, 8pm / £13/ £11FILM SCREENING / 6pm‘Rock and Roll’s Greatest Failure: Otway the Movie’ FREE with a ticket for the gig.

Both John Otway and Wild Willy Barrett remain enigmas to the vast majority of the British public, but for those who know they are amongst the top ten of favourite artists to see live.

The performance will be opened by the wonderful piper Fred Morrison, a long time friend of Julie’s and performs regularly on bagpipes, encompass whistles, Scottish smallpipes, or reelpipes, and Irish uilleann pipes.

This has all the ingredients for an evening of magical music...

It's been fantastic to meet so many local musicians, enthusiasts and supporters of new music in Stirling.

If you're a musician, a songwriter, a promoter or just an enthusiast, I'd love to hear from you and get your thoughts on music development in Stirling and ho we can boost the local scene together. [email protected]/tolbooth.musicdevelopment
