Improved Staggered Cutting module

●  In this version, the staggered cutting module has been improved based on users’ feedback

●  This module allows you to define the shapes for the cutting paths to cut

your flexo plates, in order to save flexo plate material. This allows you to print seamless without the need for flexo sleeves. The seam is put in an area without printing. Eg for flexible packaging jobs.

Staggered cutting: how it works

The workflow is as following:

1.  An operator defines the staggered cutting path(s) in Plato, saves the pdfpla file. For each separation, there can be a different staggered cut path.

2.  When ripping the PDFPLA file to a LEN file via the Esko FlexRip or Imaging Engine, the path is copied into the LEN file. You can view the LEN file with bitmap viewer to see the staggered cutting path.

3.  The cut path is then picked up by the Esko Digital Flexo Suite software (DFS). From DFS, you can export an ACM file which can be used to automatically cut the plates on a Kongsberg table.

Staggered cutting: what is new?

●  The staggered cut path is created on a separate layer and now gets colored in a technical separation

●  This makes it easier to inspect and edit the created staggered cut path

Staggered cutting: what is new?

●  When selecting an existing path, the staggered cutting dialog reflects all parameters that were used to create the path

●  You can now easily change the parameters of existing paths and click the modify button

Staggered cutting: what is new?

●  To change your existing cutting paths, you can also use the new function “extract for editing”

●  This will create a copy of the top part of the staggered cut path in a new layer ●  You can edit this path using the transform and path editing tools ●  You can also deselect certain separations, to create a different cutting path

for specific separations ●  Click the “Create” button again. The cutting paths will be changed for the

separations which you transformed. By doing so, you can end up with a different cutting separation for each separation if desired.

Staggered cutting: what is new?

●  When the gap is limited between the graphics or when no gap is available, a new option “blank pixels under path” will knockout the pixels in all separations underneath the staggered cutting path

●  This will avoid having to cut through imaged (elevated) areas of your flexo plates, which could damage the plate edges

Smart flapping exception handling

●  Plato can automatically adjust overlapping bleeds between graphics. We call this smart flapping.

●  In Plato 14.1, bleed overlap priority can now be decided by ArtiosCAD Artwork Panels.

●  The decision is based on how the ArtiosCAD user defined the bleed direction for these specific panels, by means of a new option “allow bleed” in ArtiosCAD 14.0.2

Wave lines support

●  Wave lines in ARD or MFG files are now better supported in Plato as well as on Automation Engine.

●  This solves problems that could arise in older versions with creation of bleed masks

SmartMarks Preserve screening option

●  A new option “preserve screening” available in image mark and grid mark (when selecting a custom file) allows to select an image or PDF file as mark and keep the screening as specified in the file

●  Possible use case: placing mounting dots on jobs in HD flexo – You can force the correct screening on your mounting dots using this option. If not you risk mounting dots getting screened, which makes them useless.
