h. "You" means an individual or entity exercising rights under this License who has not previously violated the terms of this License with respectto the Work, or who has received express permission from the Licensor to exercise rights under this License despite a previous violation.

i. "Publicly Perform" means to perform public recitations of the Work and to communicate to the public those public recitations, by anymeans or process, including by wire or wireless means or public digital performances; to make available to the public Works in such a way thatmembers of the public may access these Works from a place and at a place individually chosen by them; to perform the Work to the public byany means or process and the communication to the public of the performances of the Work, including by public digital performance; tobroadcast and rebroadcast the Work by any means including signs, sounds or images.

SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OF IMPLIED WARRANTIES, SO THISEXCLUSION MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.

6. Limitation on Liability. EXCEPT TO THE EXTENT REQUIRED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL LICENSOR BE LIABLE TO YOU ONANY LEGAL THEORY FOR ANY SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, PUNITIVE OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF THIS LICENSEOR THE USE OF THE WORK, EVEN IF LICENSOR HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

7. Termination

■ a. This License and the rights granted hereunder will terminate automatically upon any breach by Youof the terms of this License. Individuals or entities who have received Adaptations or Collections fromYou under this License, however, will not have their licenses terminated provided such individuals orentities remain in full compliance with those licenses. Sections 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, and 8 will survive anytermination of this License.

■ b. Subject to the above terms and conditions, the license granted here is perpetual (for the duration ofthe applicable copyright in the Work). Notwithstanding the above, Licensor reserves the right to releasethe Work under different license terms or to stop distributing the Work at any time; provided, howeverthat any such election will not serve to withdraw this License (or any other license that has been, oris required to be, granted under the terms of this License), and this License will continue in full forceand effect unless terminated as stated above.

8. Miscellaneous

Is Autodesk learning and support content copyrighted?

Yes. Creative Commons licensing does not replace copyright. Copyright remains with Autodesk or its suppliers, as applicable. But it makes theterms of use much more flexible.

What do the Autodesk Creative Commons licenses allow?

Autodesk makes some of its learning and support content available under two distinct Creative Commons licenses. The learning content isclearly marked with the applicable Creative Commons license. You must comply with the following conditions:

■ Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike (CC BY-NC-SA) This license lets you copy, distribute,display, remix, tweak, and build upon our work noncommercially, as long as you credit Autodesk andlicense your new creations under the identical terms.

How do I attribute Autodesk learning content?

Do I follow YouTube's standard license or Autodesk's Creative Commons license?

The videos of the Autodesk Learning Channels on YouTube are uploaded under YouTube's standard license policy. Nonetheless, these videosare released by Autodesk as Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-No Derivative Works (CC BY-NC-ND) and are marked as such.

You are free to use our video learning content according to the Creative Commons license under which they are released.

Where can I easily download Autodesk learning videos?

Most of the Autodesk Learning Channels have an associated iTunes podcast from where you can download the same videos and watch themoffline. When translating Autodesk learning videos, we recommend downloading the videos from the iTunes podcasts.

Can I translate Autodesk learning videos?

Yes. Even though our learning videos are licensed as No Derivative Works (ND), we grant everyone permission to translate the audio and subtitlesinto other languages. In fact, if you want to recapture the video tutorial as-is but show the user interface in another language, you are free todo so. Be sure to give proper attribution as indicated on the video's Creative Commons end-plate. This special permission only applies totranslation projects. Requests for modifications outside of these license terms can be directed to [email protected].

How do I let others know that I have translated Autodesk learning content into another language?

Autodesk is happy to see its learning content translated into as many different languages as possible. If you translate our videos or any of ourlearning content into other languages, let us know. What’s New in Alias 2016

We are pleased to provide you with the latest version of Autodesk® Alias™ software.

General improvements

Describes general changes and new features.

General disclaimer

If you are using existing user preferences from an older version of Alias, you may not noticewhen the default values of options change.

User preferences for Windows are located inC:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Alias\UserPrefs2016.

User preferences for Mac OS are located in/Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/Autodesk/Alias/UserPrefs2016.

If the folder does not exist, it is created the first time Alias 2016 launches. The following dialogappears:

Choose Defaults to accept the new default preferences.

ViewCube enhancements

■ We've made it easier to switch between perspective and orthographic views in theViewCube. Select either Perspective or Perspective with Ortho Faces as a defaultperspective viewing mode, then switch to Orthographic and back, rather than cyclingthrough all three options.

■ To indicate that you are in a true orthographic planar or elevation view, the faces ofViewCube are highlighted green by default. You can change this color in Preferences> Interface > User Colors. Under Modeling Window Colors set the ViewCubeAxis Ortho color.

Interface Scaling for High Resolution Monitors

If you have a high resolution monitor (4K and up), you can now scale the Alias interface toa usable size.

On the Preferences > General Preferences > Interface tab, set the Interface Scale.

Text improvements

We reduced the size of the text on icon labels to improve readability and customization.

Tool windows improvements

■ All tool windows use the same window attributes (position, transparency, and collapsestate), with the exception of size.

On the Preferences > General Preferences > Interface tab, select Use CommonTool Window Attributes.

■ Choose how to collapse windows. On the Preferences > General Preferences >Interface tab, select a Window Collapse Action. To collapse a window, you canclick the title bar, double-click it, or select the collapse icon (arrow) on the title bar.Clicking the collapse icon collapses the window no matter which option is selected.

■ Alt-clicking on a window section title expands the section if it is not already expanded,and collapses all other expanded sections in the window.

Shift-clicking on a window section applies the action to all the sections in the window.

■ Inactive control windows that are not embedded in the Alias window may be transparent.

Select Window Transparency in General Preferences and set the Inactive WindowOpacity, the Active Window Opacity, and the Transition Speed, the rate at which thewindow becomes transparent when it becomes inactive.

You can override this transparency using the Allow Transparency option in thewindow title bar menu pull-down menu.

■ On collapsable windows, you can lock the direction of the collapse so that it does notchange when you move the window close to an edge of the application window.

On the window title bar, select the lock on the collapse menu.

■ If one tool window is open on tool exit, the next selected tool window is open by default.

File > New confirm window default changed

When you create a new file, you are prompted to confirm "Delete all objects, shaders, viewsand actions before starting a New session?" We changed the default from Yes to No. Nowwhen prompted to confirm, you can press the spacebar to create a new stage.

Arrow keys are now supported to change the choice in a confirm box.

Print enhancements

■ The axis lines have been thickened.

■ Print notification changed from "Finished Printing" to "Sent to Printer".

Support for Alt Gr Tumble on German Keyboard and OS

We added the ability to tumble using the Alt Gr key on a German keyboard and OS. Set theenvironment variable ALIAS_LINKSHANDER_TUMBLE to make the Alt Gr key behave likeAlt+Ctrl for tumbling.

Ability to change the location of exception log files

We added an Exception Log location option in the System section of Preferences >General Preferences.

Assign random colors to layer folders

We added Layers > Random Color option box. Select Include Layer Folders to assigncolors to layer folders too. Otherwise only layers are assigned colors and the folders areignored.

This version of Alias presents improvements to rendering.

Ability to Switch Shading Assignments

We added a Switch Shader that gives you the ability to switch shading assignments quickly.

A switch shader contains multiple shaders, but only one of them is applied at a time. Theselected shader is the active shader. The other shaders are alternatives. Select an alternativeshader in the switch shader to assign it to the objects the switch shader is assigned to.

Use Switch Shaders to quickly create variants with different shading assignments.

To create a switch shader

1 Select a shader that you want to switch between and in Multi-Lister, choose Edit >New Switch Shader. The Switch Shader is created with the selected shader.

2 Double-click the Switch Shader. The Switch Shader window appears with the selectedshader listed.

3 Select another shader that you want to switch between and in the Switch Shaderwindow, click Add. The Shader's name is listed in the window.

4 Continue adding shaders to the Switch Shader list.

To remove a shader from the list, select it then click Remove.

To copy a shader on the list, select it then click Copy.

To move a shader in the list, drag it to its new position with the middle mouse button.

To switch between shaders

1 Assign the Switch Shader to the objects.

2 In the Switch Shader window, double-click the name of the shader you want to assignto the objects.

Improved integration of VRED and Alias materials

We've added two new features to improve the appearance of materials when moving betweenVRED and Alias. Both require setup in VRED.■ VRED Material Tags

■ Autodesk Automotive Assets

Required setup in VRED

■ Choose Edit > Preferences > WebInterface and select Enable Web Server.

VRED Material Tags

We've added the ability to associate a VRED Material Tag with an Alias shader. In Alias,objects assigned a tagged shader display using the Alias shader settings. When you send afile to VRED, shaders with the VRED tag assigned are replaced with the corresponding VREDmaterial.

To assign VRED Material Tags to Alias shaders

■ In the Shaders editor under Data Transfer Information > VRED Material Tag,select the VRED shader to use in place of the Alias shader when the file is open in VRED.

New Automotive Asset Library for common VRED materials

A new Automotive Assets Library (an application) now installs with Alias. The AutomotiveAsset Library provides common VRED materials that you can load into Alias as read-onlyapproximations of the VRED materials. When you send a file to VRED, the Aliasapproximation is discarded and VRED uses the associated VRED material instead.

You can edit the common materials in the Asset Manager. You cannot edit them in Alias.If you edit or copy the material, it becomes an Alias shader.

To use VRED materials in Alias

1 In the Visualize control panel of Alias, select Shader Library > AutomotiveAssets Library.

The control panel updates to include tabs containing the common VRED materials.

2 Double-click the VRED material to add it to the Resident Shaders tab. The icon for theshader has a small VRED material icon in the bottom left corner.

3 Assign the common material.

To edit a common material in the Asset Manager

1 On the Materials tab, select the folder where the assets are stored.

2 Drag the material from the Materials tab to the Materials list in the Material Editorsection.

3 Select the material in the list and on the material icon, click Modify.

4 Update the material settings and click Save.

Asset Manager section Select a folder to list materials. Use the zoom slider to

Automotive Assets Preferences

Load All Defaults Loads content from all asset manager paths.

Load Default Loads the content from selected path.

Search Paths Use the two tabs to display paths where Alias can reference the VRED assets(complete scenes) and materials. Use the buttons on the bottom to add, change or removepaths from the lists.

General Select the file format in which preview images will be generated. If you are workingwith sensitive content and want to generate images that can only be read by VRED, selectVIF.

New Variant Lister Window Replaces Bookmark Lister

We replaced the Bookmark Lister with the Variant Lister (Windows > Variant Lister).Like bookmarks, variants are a powerful tool for creating and presenting multiple variationsof a scene. Create, edit, and store different variations or alternatives of views, shading, grid,object, layer, reference and category visibility, layer symmetry, and annotations. Variantssupport the visibility state of Reference data.

All variants in the scene are accessible with a single click of the thumbnail representing thevariant. Manage variants by grouping them. Resize thumbnails using the slider at the topright of the window.■ To create a group, click New Group.

■ To collapse or expand the group, click the group title bar.

■ To delete a group, click the x on the group title bar.

■ To create a variant of the view with the current settings, click a Capture thumbnail orplus sign (+).

■ To change the order of variants in a group or move them to another group, drag anddrop variants thumbnails with the middle mouse button.

■ To recapture a variant, right-click the thumbnail and select Recapture.

■ To delete a variant, right-click on the thumbnail and select Delete.

■ To save an image of a variant, right-click on the thumbnail and select Publish.

■ To step and cycle through the variations, use the Previous, Next, and Play buttons, orarrow keys on the keyboard.

Control which attributes are applied to the variants in a group by applying masks. Whenselected (blue), the mask attributes are included in all variants in the group. When notselected, the mask attributes are ignored in the view.

Applies camera information (view, up, position, etc)

Applies shading information (hardware shading, diagnostic shading, switch shaderassignments, grid display)

Applies geometry information (object visibility, locator visibility, layer symmetry,reference file and file set visibility, reference symmetry)

Added the ability to shade reference layers

We added a Shade Reference Layers option in the Visualization section of Preferences> General Preferences. When this option is selected, objects on reference layers can beshaded with Hardware Shade and diagnostic shaders.

Modeling

Describes changes and improvements to modeling tools.

New Surface Chain pick tool

We added a Surface Chain tool for selecting a set of surfaces that are G0 or G1 continuous.

Choose Pick > Surface Chain and select the first surface.

When you select a surface, the selection continues until reaching an edge outside the specifiedtolerance.

Surface Chain Control options

Edge Continuity Pick all surfaces with edges that are G0 Position continuous or G1 Tangentcontinuous.

Tolerances

Use Construction Use the Continuity construction tolerances set in Preferences >Construction Options.

Maximum Gap G0 The maximum distance allowed between two surfaces for the system toconsider them contiguous (touching).

Normal Angle G1 The maximum angle allowed between two surface normals for the systemto consider the normals pointing in the same direction.

Topology Distance The distance used to calculate which surface is adjacent to another.

New Multi Blend tool

The new Multi Blend tool replaces the N-sided Blend tool. Use it to fill a hole by creatinga surface from three or more input edges. With the Multi Blend tool, you can control theboundary continuity and internal structure of the surface.

To fill a hole with a multiple blend surface

1 Choose Surfaces > Boundary Surfaces > Multi Blend ❑. The MultiBlend Controloption window opens.

2 Select a surface edge or curve to be used as an edge of the multi blend surface and clickAccept.

3 Repeat step 2 until all edges or curves have been selected and click Done.

4 Modify options and click Build to build the multi blend surface.

MultiBlend Control options

Edge Split Type Defines the seam positions of the multi blend surfaces on the selectededges, if no single surface is created.

User Defined – Locate the seam positions individually by dragging the edge point handles.

Flexure – The seam position is calculated from the arc length and the curvature of theedge.

Arc Length –The seam position is set to the middle of the side with respect to arc length.

Parameter – The seam position is set to the middle of the side with respect to the originalparameter flow.

Edge Continuity Defines the global quality of the transition across the selected surfaceedges and curves: G0 Position, G1 Tangent, or G2 Curvature. If adjacent edges or curves arenot connected to an edge with tangent continuity, the corresponding side will initially beset only to position continuity.

Seam Continuity Define the continuity at the seams: G1 Tangent, or G2 Curvature.

Shape Factor Controls the shape of the multi blend surface by means of a shape factor. Ifthe Shape Factor option is not available, a value of 1.0 is used.

Cross Variation Controls the calculation of transitions across the selected edges. It is onlyrelevant for tangent or curvature continuous transitions. Use this option for better controlpoint distribution within the created surfaces. It requires a higher degree for the calculationof a result with the best possible accuracy.

Inner Curvature

Star Point Modification The star points are calculated automatically with the first calculationof the blend surfaces. After this calculation, you can change the points as follows:

Automatic – The star points are calculated automatically.

Planar – Move the star point on the blend surface by dragging the circle manipulator. Thesurface normal at the star point is preserved.

Normal – Move the star point normal to the blend surface by dragging the arrowmanipulator. The surface normal at the star point is preserved.

View – Move the start point in the view by dragging the arrow manipulator.

U, V Degree Allows you to specify a uniform degree for the creation of multiple surfaces ortwo different degrees for the creation of a single surface. If this option is inactive, the degreeis determined internally depending on the input geometry and the algorithmic requirements.The created surfaces will always be single-span surfaces.

Single Surface The multi blend can be created as a single surface. In case of a three-sidedhole, a triangular surface is created, which due to system requirements must be subdividedinto three rectangular surfaces. In the case of a four-sided hole, a rectangular surface iscreated. Only in this case is it possible to specify two different degrees.

Control options

Auto Update Update the new surface automatically as you change the values in theMultiBlend Control window.

Check Deviation A deviation measurement showing the maximum deviation between thesurfaces.

Chain Select Selecting a boundary input curve also selects all other boundary curves thatare tangent continuous with it.

Create History Save the history of the new surface for later editing. If you select CreateHistory, you can modify the curves that were used to create the surface, and the surface willupdate.

Prop Mod tool improvements

■ We added a Dist option to the Transform CV Prop Mod tool so that the falloff is calculatedbased on the distance from the primary CV, instead of by counting the number of CVsfrom the primary CV.

When using distance-based Prop Mod in NUV and slide modes, the direction ofmovement across positionally continuous surfaces is unified.

■ Prop Mod arrows now take priority over the number boxes so the arrows are easier toselect.

Removed DefaultLayer from Always Ask Paste menu

We removed DefaultLayer from the menu that appears when Always Ask is selected asthe Paste option.

Updated Fit Scan Tool

We made some significant changes to the Fit Scan tool. The tool now uses the sameinteraction model as other tools in Alias, and we added the ability to:■ Create the surface by clicking four points on the mesh.

■ Query edit and modify your surface after you leave the tool.

Build a surface to fit scan data by selecting points on the scan data

1 Choose Surface Edit > Fit Scan ❑.

2 CTRL-click on the scan data to position the four corners of the surface to fit, and thenclick Build.

3 To modify the surface, change settings in the Fit Scan Control window and clickUpdate.

TIP To see the surface more clearly on the mesh, increase the mesh transparency in the ControlPanel.

1 Create a surface on the scan data.

3 Select the surface to fit and click Accept.

4 Select the scan data for reference and click Build.

New Surface From Mesh Tool

We created a new Surface From Mesh tool for quickly creating a NURBS surface from asubset of a mesh. Once the surface is created, you can edit its boundaries using the cornerhandles.

1 Choose Surfaces > Surface From Mesh ❑.

2 Select the mesh.

3 Select the triangles to use to create the surface using the selection mode set underSelection Options in the Surface From Mesh Control window.

To clear the entire selection, click Clear.

4 Click Build to create the surface.

TIP Subset the mesh before creating the surface to improve performance.

Defines how you select triangles on the mesh:■ Normal Angle – Click on an area of the mesh to select a connected range of triangles

■ Brush – Drag on the mesh with the left mouse button to select triangles within thePick Radius.

■ Lasso – Click points on the mesh to define a selection area and then click Select orDeselect. Select Visible Only to select only the front-facing triangles. Otherwise, boththe front and back-facing triangles are selected.

NOTE Normal Angle, Brush, and Lasso selection have also been added to the Mesh Subsetand Mesh Smooth tools.

Auto Update

Automatically updates the surface when the values in the Surface From Mesh Control windowchange.

Create History

Saves the history of the quick surface so you can modify the surface later.

Deviation Check

Displays the deviation between the created surface and the selected region of the mesh.

Deviation Scale

The scale of the deviation combs.

Deviation Samples

The number of quills on the deviation comb.

Invert U/V

Flips the U/V direction of the deviation combs.

Improved Mesh Subset and Mesh Smooth tools

Normal Angle, Brush, and Lasso selection have also been added to the Mesh Subsetand Mesh Smooth tools. See Selection Mode (page 18).

New Stitch and Seam Tool

This new tool automates the creation of seams and stitching for visualization.

Using a curve-on-surface to define the seam line, and an optional adjacent surface set, thetool creates seam and stitch geometry.

Create a seam and stitch geometry

1 Choose Surfaces > Stitch and Seam ❑.

2 Select tangent continuous surface curves or surface edges that define the seam andclick Accept.

If you selected surface edges, pick the surfaces on the other side of the seam.

3 Set options in the Stitch and Seam Control window and click Build.

4 Select the stich geometry in the Outliner and change their shader so you candifferentiate them from the surfaces.

Seam Flip Flips the direction of the seam surfaces and stitches.

Start/End Controls how the edges of the seam surfaces meet the edges of the surfaces onwhich they are created.■ Default – The end edges of the seam surfaces remain perpendicular to the

curve-on-surface.

■ Extend – The seam surface end edges are extended so that they reach the surface edgeswhile remaining perpendicular to the curve-on-surface.

■ Connect – The seam surface end edges meet the surface edges exactly.

■ Edge Align – The tool tries to align the seam surface end edges with the edges of thesurface.

Modify Range When this option is selected, Start and End sliders appear in the controlwindow, and arrow manipulators appear on the selected curve-on-surface. Drag these arrowsto modify the extent of the seam along the curve-on-surface.

Start/End Use these sliders to modify the extent of seam along the curve-on-surface. Startand End values of 0.0 and 1.0 respectively, define the original extent.

Bulge

Create Bulge Create a swelling or bump on one or both sides of the seam. If only one sideis selected, the Bulge Size is applied to that side, and a Bulge Size of 0.0100 is appliedto the other.

Groove

Create Groove For French seams only. Create an indent along the stitching line of one orboth sides of the seam. Increase the Groove Size for a wider indent along the stitch line.

Decreasing the Groove Size may decrease the Stitch Diameter and could also result ina seam that appears to have no stitches. Increasing the Groove Size does not automaticallyincrease the Stitch Diameter.

Stitches

Create Stitch For French and Baseball seams only. Create stitches on one or both sides ofthe seam.

NOTE Seam Offset, Groove Size, Stitch Diameter, and Stitch Length are all related. Forexample, increasing Stitch Diameter increases the other three settings.

Stitch Tautness Changes the shape of the geometry to represent stitches that are pulledtight. As tautness increases, the stitch profile becomes flatter and more elliptical.

Quick Stitch Creates stitches with fewer spans to increase update speed.

Trim Stitches Trims the stich surfaces where they intersect the seam surfaces. Deselect thisoption to increase the update speed.

Control Options

Trim Type■ Off – Does not trim the original surfaces.

■ Curves-on-surface – Creates curves-on-surface along the contact lines of the seamsurfaces, allowing you to trim manually.

■ Automatic – Automatically trims the original surfaces back to the contact lines.

Auto Update Automatically updates the seam surfaces as you change options.

Multi-Surface Draft Tool Enhancements

We added the following functionality to the Multi-Surface Draft tool.

Enhancements to Flange Surfaces

■ Ability to build a clean flange off a light weight curve that has been fit to acurve-on-surface.

Select Flange from Curve, From Surface.

Select the input curves and click Accept.

Select the surfaces to set the normal and click Build.

■ Ability to create a flange from a curve to a surface.

Select Flange from Curve, To Surface.

Select the curves and click Accept.

Select the surfaces you want the flange to meet and click Build.

■ New Length Mode option to define which distance the flange Length represents.

Default – The length of the flange is the length of the flange edge.

Projected – The length of the flange is the projected distance to the surface.

■ Intersect Flanges extends and trims the flanges to their intersection. You can chooseto Trim or Trim Convert the flanges.

■ A new Orientation Vector option that allows you to reorient the flange edges to avector. Use the Orientation Vector options to select or create a vector or use themanipulator to reorient the edges.

Reference Manager Enhancements

We made the following enhancements to the Reference Manager. You can now:■ Make the current layer or DAG node visible and all other siblings invisible using Alt +

click.

■ Make all layers or DAG nodes visible or invisible using Shift + click.

■ Change the point of interest when working with Reference Manager in shaded view.

■ Use the new Filter menu to show or hide Surfaces, Meshes, Curves, and Shells.

■ Change layer colors inside the Reference Manager.

2 Right-click and select Duplicate Folder(s) and Contents.

Check Model Identifies T-Connections

The Short Edges option in the Check Model tool now identifies T-connection situationswhere the corners of the surfaces are close, but not within the Max Gap distance.

Surface Fillet Enhancements

We added the ability to create fillets using multiple input surfaces.

Choose the Surfaces > Multi-Surface Fillet > Surface Fillet tool, select all the inputsurfaces and click Build.

We also included the ability to Query Edit the multiple fillets to rework the results.

Path Array and Surface Array Tool Enhancements

We replaced the Orient Normals check box in the Path Array and Surface Array tools withan Orientation drop-down that includes an additional orient to Tangent option. TheOrientation options are:■ None – No change in orientation.

■ Tangent – The first copy of the object takes the original orientation and all subsequentcopies are rotated based on the tangent of the input curve at the point where the objectis being placed. This allows the arrayed objects to follow the flow of the input curve.

■ Normal – Aligns the local X axis of each duplicate with the tangent of the target curveat the position of the duplicate. If the target curve is a curve-on-surface, each duplicateis oriented so that its local Z axis matches the normal direction of the surface where thecurve-on-surface lies. If the target curve is a free curve, the Z axis of each duplicate isoriented along the direction of the curvature vector of the curve (like plot combs).

Revolve Tool enhancements

We added more control over the surface layout in the Revolve tool.

You can now specify the sweep angle per segment, instead of just specifying the number ofsegments. If the sweep angle per segment does not divide equally into the total sweep anglethen the last surface will be a smaller surface containing the remainder.

New Pick Component option to select trimmed surfaces only

We added a Trimmed option to the Pick Component Options window (Pick > PickComponent ❑) so you can select trimmed surfaces only.

New Transform tool

We added a new multi-transform tool (Transform > Transform). It displays a singletransform manipulator at the pivot point of the selected object that you can use to move,rotate, and scale the selection.

You can set individual hotkeys for Move, Rotate, and Scale for a common transforminteraction across Autodesk Automotive products.■ To move the object along an axis, drag an arrow.

■ To move the object freely, click an arrow, then drag the star at the center of themanipulator with the mouse buttons.

■ To scale the object along an axis, drag a cube.

■ To scale the object uniformly, click a cube, then drag the cube. at the center of themanipulator.

■ To rotate the object around an axis, drag a sphere or arc.

■ To rotate the object freely, click a sphere, then drag the sphere at the center of themanipulator with the mouse buttons.

Layer Name Active after Create

When you create a new layer, the layer name is now active, so you can immediately type anew name.

If you do not want this behavior, you can turn it off in General Preferences > Interfaceby deselecting Activate Layer Name on Create.

New option to display pick chooser when curve snapping to coincident curves

We added a Show Pick Chooser option to the New CV Curve and New Edit PointCurve tools. When selected, the pick chooser appears when CVs or edit points are snappedto coincident curves.

Enhanced Proportional Crown functionality in Skin and Freeform Blend tools

We added the ability to turn Proportional Crown on and off directly on the surface.

■ To display the crown manipulator, click Off.

■ To change the crown value, drag the arrow. The value adjusts in 0.005 increments. Usethe left mouse button for adjustments, the middle mouse button for fine adjustments.

■ To flip the crown, click the dashed line.

Data Transfer

VRED functionality available on Mac OSX

The File > Send to VRED and VRED NURBS Analysis diagnostic shader features are nowavailable on Mac OSX.

C4 translator options removed from File > Open and Save As option boxes

C4 files will still load automatically.

ATF IGES translator enabled

The ATF IGES translator is now enabled by default. To reflect the new translator, we madethe following changes to IGES import and export.

IGES Import■ Removed the Default Trim Curves option. The ATF translator automatically determines

the correct trimming process.

IGES Export■ Replaced the Output Style option with the Shell Type option.

■ Wireframe converts surfaces to curves.

■ Solid/Shell preserves the topology on output. For example, a stitched cube remainsa stitched cube, and is not converted to 6 surface faces.

■ Surface loses the topology on output. For example, a stitched cube is broken into 6surface faces.

■ Removed the Scale Factor option.

■ Removed the Significant Digits option. The ATF translator uses the Alias systemtolerance, 12 digits.

■ Removed the IGES Version option. IGES files are forward and backward compatible.
