Grand Knight’s Report
NOV 2020
Beloved Brothers & Sir Knights,
As we closed the month of October, we hope you had a wonderful Halloween and stayed safe. The current tier level for our county is (Tier 2 Red). So be vigilant and practice social distancing per county guidelines.
Although times have been really tough on events for our council. We still had opportunities to vol-unteer our time in many different ways. Thank you to all those brother that still help as much as possible with ushering during mass and all the other request from the GSCC office. Without your dedication to our Parish they would not be as successful during these times.

Grand Knight’s Report . . . Continued
We had an awesome turn out during the Blessings of the Animals. Our Knights provided security and traffic control. I had luxury to see dogs, cats, birds and even chicken being blessed. It was nice to see fellow brothers and parishioners bring their pets to be blessed by Father Chris and Father Julius. From the look of Father Julius, he had a blast conducting this event.
Our veteran brothers / Knights attended the funeral mass of a fallen veteran/parishioner Jack Solarzano. Our Veterans ministry who are also brother knights participated in the pro-cession and honored his family a condolence letter.
The four athletes for our soccer challenge were presented with their council trophies and District medals during the Northern California Chapter Soccer Competition in St John the Baptist church in Folsom. They also participated in the event and came away with three 1st places. These athletes will be competing in the State Level on Novem-ber 8th. Congratulation to Susan Fukuda, Alexis Suarez, and Owen Cannon.
Congratulations to Brother Juan Rios being promoted to a 3rd degree on October 30th during the Spanish/English exemplification at the Ca-thedral of the Blessed Sacrament. A big thank you goes out to Brother Rafael Vega for stepping up and being one of the presenters during the unity section of the Spanish portion.
We were presented with our Star Council Award for Columbian Year 2019 – 2020 from District Deputy Dan Aguiar during the completion of the Officer Installation for St John Paul II #3504 Assembly. Congratulation to everyone. Without your support this award would not have happen.
Now that we will be entering the holiday and flu season, please be even more vigilant with your health. Remember to sanitize and wash hands more often. Stay safe with the national elections upon us. Times are surely strange and will be even more unpredictable as we start to close out the year.
“King of kings, I come before you ask for your help. I am here on behalf of our country as we approach the election period. Give us your wisdom to elect leaders who will stand for us and who will lead by example. Guide us as we make our decisions. Open our eyes to see what’s good for us as a nation. Protect us from those who want leadership for selfish reasons like for power and finan-cial gain at the expense of developing the nation. Give us leaders who fear you. Amen.” … By Connect US
Prayers & Blessings

Chancellor’s Report
Brother Knights! Your mission should you choose to accept it is to recruit 1
Knight Candidate this month. If you do this, we will break all kinds of records.
But seriously, all of us should be asking those Catholic gentlemen we encounter
why they aren’t Knights. Have that discussion as to why they aren’t willing to
give of their time and talent to Good Shepherd Catholic Church.
The next Parish bulletin will have a recruitment message in it. In the body of the
recruitment message will be the Knights QR code. Just have Knight Candidate
scan the QR code which will have a sign up form that pops up. Just have them
fill it out and hit send. It goes directly to our Worthy Grand Knight. My suggestion to you is to have
the QR code on your phone. How simple is that?
There is still work to be done … Recruit!
Our recruiting goal is to get 12 men this Columbian year. We did it last year and we can do it again.
Stay safe and pray the Rosary!
Thank you and Vivat Jesus!

A Brother Knight Helps a Family Member of Another Brother Knight
Well at first pass, this seems pretty normal that as
Brothers in the Knights of Columbus, we would
help each other and our families, but this is some-
what of a “special” situation.
SK Coleman
Stephens was a long
time member of our
council. He was well-
known and was a
very active member
of our council. About
two years ago when
he retired, he moved
from Elk Grove to his
home state of Texas
to be closer to his
family. Coleman has
stayed in touch with
our council, more re-
cently with establish-
ing a daily morning
rosary group on
ZOOM, in which SK
Larry Navarrete
and I participate.
Now here’s where
it gets interesting.
Coleman’s sister,
Barbara and her
roommate Lynn live
together in Spring,
Texas which is about
180 miles from Cole-
man’s home. One
day, Lynn took a fall
and injured herself
pretty severely in
the garage. Barbara
said that a handrail could have prevented Lynn
from falling down. With Coleman living a fair dis-
tance away, undergoing chemotherapy, and stay-
ing at home due to COVID-19, he was not readily
available to help.
At one of our ZOOM rosaries, Brother Larry Navar-
rete came up with the idea that perhaps a Brother
Knight, located in her city could help. Barbara wor-
ships at St. Edward Catholic Church in Spring,
Texas and as luck would have it, a KofC council is
associated with her church. Barbara and Coleman
contacted the parish office to see if perhaps some-
one from the KofC could help her install a handrail
in her garage.
As soon as SK Charles Gustavus
heard of Barbara’s need, he immedi-
ately sprang into action! He fabri-
cated, painted, and installed a handrail
in the garage for Barbara and Lynn.
He was so happy to help! It turns out
Charles lives just a few blocks away
from Barbara and Lynn! Barbara
wanted to pay him for his efforts, but
there was no way she could convince
Charles to accept payment for the
handrail! This call to action from a
Brother Knight clearly embodies what
we as Brother Knights are all about.
SK Charles is a member of St. Ed-
ward the Confessor Council,
#14512.
Coleman can
now rest assured
that his sister
and her room-
mate will feel
safer as they go
between the
house and ga-
rage.
On Behalf of
Coleman, Bar-
bara, and Lynn,
Laguna Council
#11236 of Elk
Grove, Califor-
nia would like to
sincerely thank
Brother Charles
Gustavus for his
willingness to
help a family
member of our
good friend,
Brother Coleman.

NOV 2020
Beloved Brothers & Sir Knights,
Our Honor Guard team had the privilege presenting the colors for our Assembly
Officer Installation on October 17th. They also completed their annual inspec-
tion from our Northern California District Master, SK Tim Fukuda.
Congratulations goes out to our newest Honor Guard Member, SK John Huggard
who will start joining our call outs.
For Honor Guard members wanting to purchase a Polo shirt or jacket one, the
cost is $60.00 + tax up to XL. An additional $4.00 for up to 4X when purchasing.
I encourage members of our assembly to join our team. Our team is split into 2 sections, one is for
call outs for mass, funerals, confirmation, etc. and the other is for the competitive drill competition.
Just remember that our assembly has a program to purchase your uniform and pay back in install-
ments for 1 year.
Prayers & Blessings

Every year for the Holidays, Laguna Council #
11236 uses the proceeds from the Knight’s
Holiday Pie Sales to adopt deserving families
in our community. We
get suggestions from the
Parish Office, St. Vincent
de Paul, and SEAS.
It is not set in stone of
just how many families
we will adopt this year
because we aren’t sure
how many pies will be
sold. Once we discover
how many families we will adopt, we will in-
terview them as to what they are wishing for.
Usually, the gifts are wrapped and then Santa
(FN Bill Boles) delivers them usually a few days
before Christmas.
Puts smiles on a child’s face by buying a Holiday
Pie!

Good Shepherd
in need
of volunteers!
As we deal with ever-
changing circumstances
and restrictions on our
gatherings, now more
than ever we are in need
of volunteers to help at
Mass. We need more ush-
ers, people to check-in
parishioners at Mass, and
Mass coordinators. Any-
one can help - men,
women, even responsible,
older teens in need of vol-
unteer hours. If you feel
called to help in any of
these capacities, please
contact the parish office
at:
All of these roles require a
minimal time commitment
but make a huge differ-
ence in keeping everyone
safe and healthy!
Thank you for considering
how you can make a posi-
tive impact at Good Shep-
herd.

Brothers,
Our church's audio system needs to be upgraded. The part of the sys-
tem that carries wireless signal from the microphones to the amplifiers
has to be replaced including the microphones.
To upgrade all the hardware the cost is just under $9,000. To date, I
have raised $2,000 which Denise has in the office.
This upgrade needs to be done. Please consider giving to this needed
cause. Any amount you can contribute would be appreciated.
We know this is a difficult time for all of us. Donations are down at
church so please help if you can and God Bless You if you can't afford
to.
I took this task on to help our church and would be glad to pick any do-
nations. Checks can be made out to our church and taken to the office
or given to me. Please write “GS Audio System” in the memo part of
the check. I am keeping track of donations and providing the GS office
with these same numbers so that your contribution can be eligible as a
tax deduction.
Please help make this happen.
Thank you,

A pious man who had reached the age of 105 sud-
denly stopped going to church. Alarmed by the old
fellow's absence after so many years of faithful at-
tendance the pastor went to see him. He found him
in excellent health, so the pastor asked, "How
come after all these years we don't see you at ser-
vices anymore?"
The old man looked around and lowered his voice.
I'll tell you, Pastor," he whispered. "When I got to
be 90 I expected God to take me any day. But then
I got to be 95, then 100, then 105. So I figured
that God is very busy and must have forgotten
about me … and I don't want to remind Him."
All four churches in the small town had a serious
problem with squirrel infestation.
The Presbyterians decided that it was predestined
that squirrels be in the church and that they would
just have to live with them.
The Methodists decided they should deal with the
squirrels lovingly in the style of Charles Wesley.
They humanely trapped them and released them in
a park at the edge of town. Within 3 days, they
were all back in the church.
The Catholics also humanely trapped them and at-
tempted to teach them the "rhythm" method which
of course did not work.
The Lutherans had the best solution. They con-
firmed the squirrels, and now they see the animals
only at Christmas and Easter.
Four pastors were on vacation when one of them
confessed he had a problem with alcohol. He knew
these men, his most trusted and valued friends,
would quietly help him.
The second pastor said that he too, had a secret
vice — gambling.
The third pastor confided that lust was a really big
issue for him.
The fourth pastor announced that he also had a
problem: gossip.
