What’s New in ADMS-Urban and ADMS-Roads 3.1?
Lithuania User Group Meeting 2012
Using .hfc, .igp and .nbr files
• In previous versions of the model files with data for hourly emissions (.hfc), intelligent grid points (.igp) and noise barriers (.nbr) were required to have the same name as the model input (.upl) file and to be located in the same directory as the .upl file
• These files can now have any name and be located in any directory • To use these files:
– The .hfc file must be referenced in the time varying emissions screen
– The .igp and .nbr files must be specified in the additional input (.uai) file
• When upgrading any model input (.upl) file that uses .hfc, .igp or .nbr files, this warning message may appear
ADMS-Urban and ADMS-Roads 3.1
Lithuania User Group Meeting 2012
Using .hfc, .igp and .nbr files
.hfc files are used to model emissions that change for every hour of the year
ADMS-Urban and ADMS-Roads 3.1
Lithuania User Group Meeting 2012
Using .hfc, .igp and .nbr files
The version number at the start of the .uai file has been incremented from 1 to 2. To use an existing .uai file in version 3.1, the version number at the start of the .uai file must be edited.
.igp files are used to manage the number of intelligent gridding points added to road and line sources.
.nbr files are used to model the effect of noise barriers on the concentration distribution from up to 100 road sources.

Lithuanian air quality standards ADMS-Urban and ADMS-Roads 3.1
It is now possible to populate automatically the output table for direct comparison with Lithuanian air quality standards
Lithuania User Group Meeting 2012
Other improvements
1. A road can now be modelled as both a street canyon and a road with noise barriers
2. The ArcGIS link is now supported for use with ArcGIS 10
3. The MapInfo link is now supported for use with MapInfo 11
4. For other minor changes refer to the “What’s New...” document in the ‘Documents’ sub-directory of the ADMS-Urban / ADMS-Roads 3.1 install.

Running AERMOD
• In ADMS 5 there will be an option to run AERMOD using the data entered in the ADMS interface
• ADMS sources allowed in AERMOD:
– Point sources – Passive line and area sources – Volume sources
Upcoming in ADMS 5
Lithuania User Group Meeting 2012
Running AERMOD – met. input
• Option 2 – Use ADMS met. data and specify an upper air file – Run AERMET – Run AERMOD
• Three options for choice of meteorological data • Option 1 – Use ADMS met. data from interface – Run ADMS met. processor – Run AERMOD
• Option 3 – Specify AERMOD input met. files – Run AERMOD
Upcoming in ADMS 5
Lithuania User Group Meeting 2012
Running AERMOD – allowed options
• AERMOD cannot run all ADMS options • ADMS options always allowed in AERMOD:
– Buildings (plotted) – Vertical met profiles – Time-varying emissions
Upcoming in ADMS 5
Lithuania User Group Meeting 2012
Running AERMOD – hills
• Only terrain files can be included

Met. data – hourly sequential data
• Hourly sequential selected – met. data must either be: – hourly sequential OR – suitable for interpolation, in which case the model will interpolate
the met. data so it becomes hourly sequential
Upcoming in ADMS 5
Lithuania User Group Meeting 2012
Met. data – requirements for interpolation
• In order to be interpolated the input met. data:
– Must contain year, day and hour and be in chronological order
– Must not contain gaps larger than 9 hours
– Must contain wind speed, wind direction and cloud cover
– Must contain only variables which are able to be interpolated – a full list of these is given in the User Guide
Upcoming in ADMS 5
Lithuania User Group Meeting 2012
Met. data – met. interpolation
• Allows you to model averaging times of greater than one hour if the input met. data is sequential but not hourly sequential
• 00:00 01/01/2011 • 03:00 01/01/2011 • 06:00 01/01/2011 • 09:00 01/01/2011 • 12:00 01/01/2011 • ...

Grids – multiple z levels
• Option to obtain output at multiple heights moved from .aai file to interface
• The levels.glt or levels.gst files contain concentration output
Upcoming in ADMS 5
Lithuania User Group Meeting 2012
Grids – multiple z-levels example output
• Use this option now to – Plot contours at multiple heights (ADMS contour plotter) – Plot vertical concentration profiles (Excel) – Plot vertical slices (combination of Excel and Surfer)
•0.0
•10.0
•20.0
•z(m)

Output – maximum daily concentrations
• New feature to specify maximum concentration within each day – Max. value calculated over averaging periods ending on that day – For long term output used in percentile and exceedence calculations only
Upcoming in ADMS 5
Lithuania User Group Meeting 2012
• Comprehensive output file containing concentration (and deposition) data at each output point for every met. line for each long term output
Output – comprehensive output file
Upcoming in ADMS 5
Lithuania User Group Meeting 2012
Output – comprehensive output file utility
• Comprehensive output file utility – Interactively calculate and view concentration/deposition for any
averaging period – Post-process output based on a set of air quality standards
• Highest values and date/time of occurrence • Exceedences and duration of longest exceedence
Upcoming in ADMS 5
Lithuania User Group Meeting 2012
Output – user-defined air quality limits
• Enter air quality limits in output table and click Save...
