HAVING HEALTH INSURANCE IS IMPORTANT !

No one plans to get sick or get into an accident, but having

health insurance is important so that when you find yourself

in a pickle your health

insurance will help protect

you from high costs.

YOU HAVE OPTIONS

• Half of single young adults eligible for the Health Insurance Marketplace could get coverage for $50 or less

• You can enroll in your student health plan• You can stay under your parents plan until you turn 26• You may be eligible for Medicaid (you can apply year round)

All marketplace plans cover 10 essential benefits and you cannot be denied coverage based on a preexisting condition

WHEN TO APPLY 

Open Enrollment November 15, 2014, through February 15, 2015 go to Healthcare.gov and see what options you have.

Don’t think you can afford health insurance?

Apply anyways, you may qualify for subsidies which may be able

to lower your monthly costs or you may qualify for Medicaid,

which is another lower cost option for coverage.

QUICK & EASY PROCESS

STEP 1: Create an account. Go to the Marketplace

and select your state to begin. Provide some basic

information, then choose a user name, password, and

security questions for added protection.

STEP 2: APPLY

Provide information about you and your family, like

income, household members, current health coverage,

and more. You can apply on the phone, online, by mail

or with an in-person

assister.

STEP 3: PICK A PLAN

See all the options you qualify for, including Medicaid and the

Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). The Marketplace

will let you know if you qualify for lowers costs on private

health coverage. Find out how to choose a plan that’s right for

you.

STEP 4: ENROLL

After you choose a plan, don't forget to enroll online

and contact your insurance company to pay your first

premium by the due date.

MISSED OPEN ENROLLMENT?

If you have a qualifying life event or a complex situation

related to applying in the Marketplace you may be

eligible for a SPECIAL ENROLLMENT PERIOD. A special

enrollment period is a time outside of the open

enrollment period during which you and your family

have a right to sign up for coverage.
