etc.

educated guess” if necessary)

One question that tests the depth of your knowledge of a geographic topic and how you can apply this across geographic concepts
AP Human Geography Exam
FRQ Tips for Success
Spend approx. 25 minutes on each FRQ
Answer all three questions and all parts of

questions to make yourself aware of all of the
FRQs
AP Human Geography Exam
FRQ Tips for Success
Begin by outlining your response to the first
FRQ or “pre-writing” your initial thoughts for 3-
5 minutes
After this, spend about 20 minutes formulating
your official response in the answer booklet
It is your responsibility to pace yourself in order
to have sufficient time to answer all 3 FRQs
AP Human Geography Exam
FRQ Tips for Success
Write the number of the FRQ that you are answering at the top of each page used to answer that question
Start the answer to each FRQ on a new page in the answer booklet – don’t cram all your answers into one page!
Don’t bother with a thesis or a conclusion (FRQs are not essays)
Readers are looking for content – so jump right into it!
AP Human Geography Exam
FRQ Tips for Success
Label and number each part of your
response in the margins of your answer
booklet – this will keep the reader aware of
where you are in your responses
The easier it is for the reader to identify the
main points of your response, the easier it is to
for them to award points to your response!
AP Human Geography Exam
FRQ Tips for Success
Write in complete sentences, with coherent supported thoughts
Support your responses with accurate geographic examples whenever possible
If the FRQ asks for examples from a particular region, be certain to use examples from that region and link your examples to the question’s prompt
(Review regions and look for examples and situations that you could use in responses)
AP Human Geography Exam
FRQ Tips for Success
Answer the question being asked
Answer all parts of the question
Be careful if the FRQ asks you for a specific
type of example
Be geographically analytical in your response
(no personal opinions or side comments)
If there is a chart, map, or graph in the FRQ,
be sure to use and reference it in your
response
AP Human Geography Exam
FRQ Tips for Success
What if you have no idea how to respond to the
question??
Do NOT panic!
Start writing something related to the course and
an issue you think might be tied to the FRQ
Do not leave the FRQ blank
Often, one of the FRQs will challenge you & really
give you a run for your money
Go with your gut and keep it simple, direct, and
stay within your comfort range (PING?)
