plants & valuables
R-22 Refrigerant Phase-Out
• Approximately 25 years ago, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandated the phase out of R-22 as the result of growing environmental concerns
• Acting in accordance of The Clean Air Act, the phase out was enacted to protect the Earth’s ozone layer from the ozone-depleting compound (chlorine) found in R-22
R-22 Refrigerant Phase-Out
• As a result, production of new air conditioning units with R-22 were phased out in 2010
• Newly manufactured air conditioners were now being charged with an environmentally safe refrigerant R-410A
• In addition, the production of R-22 was mandated to be reduced by 10% each year starting in 2010
R-22 Refrigerant Phase-Out• R-22 is nearing the end of its useful life• By 2020, the production of R-22 will be completely phased out
R-22 Refrigerant Phase-Out• If your air conditioner was manufactured before 2010, it
probably utilizes R-22 refrigerant• That means, the costs of maintaining and repairing your AC
unit will continue to rise as R-22 becomes obsolete• It’s all based on supply and demand…as supply goes down,
demand increases & price goes up
R-22 Refrigerant Phase-OutOption #1• You can replace the R-22 in your current AC unit with an
environmentally safe replacement, RS-44b• This has very similar operating characteristics to perform as well
as R-22 refrigerant and has proven to be very effective• RS-44b is readily available and reasonably priced• If your AC still has some warranty left & is less than 10 years old• This may be a viable option for you
R-22 Refrigerant Phase-OutOption #2• Upgrade your current air conditioner with an new high
efficiency system that uses environmentally friendly R-410A refrigerant
• This was the chosen replacement refrigerant by the EPA for manufacturers in 2010 when the R-22 ban was put in place
• It is safe, readily available and reasonably priced
R-22 Refrigerant Phase-Out• In addition, your new air conditioner will be…• Trouble free with no worries, fewer emergencies• Come with a 10 year warranty • Super energy efficient, up to 50% more than your current unit
• This can save you over $1000 annually on your utility bills
