TERM THREE, WEEK 4, 2014 A Message from the Principal Diverse Learning Opportunities at our Schools This week we had two dance groups performing in the local schools dance festival. What a fabulous occasion. We were entranced by the variety of the performances and the enthusiasm of the dancers. At each school, teachers had worked really hard choreographing the dances, preparing the costume and training the performers. The performances were polished and visually stunning. Huge thanks to Gemma Drummond who worked with our Year 1,2 dance group, assisted by Lisa Gordon, and Johanna O’Brien who worked with our Year 3,4 group. We will ensure that the groups have other opportunities to showcase their dances. Opportunities such as this are what make our New Zealand education system so broad and so rich. With learning experiences covering much more than the core literacy and maths curriculum areas, our children have the chance to be involved in and excel in the arts, sports, chess, leadership development, technology and much more. Those of you who watched Nigel Latta’s TV documentary on our education system will have sensed the richness of the curriculum offered and the rationale behind this broad experience. You will also have gained an insight into the students’ level of ownership of their learning and the extent to which learning is linked across the curriculum areas. I commend this programme to you and once again, congratulations to all our dance festival performers! Road Safety Message Please remember to be courteous to all of our school community as we move in and around the school. Think about where you cross roads. We encourage our children and the community to use the patrolled school crossing. Children who scooter to and from school are taking risks when they are not stopping before crossing roads. Please remind children about this, as the school is receiving ongoing complaints from concerned members of the public. Safety first! We all can be in a hurry at times, but please think of your children’s safety and your own safety when moving in and around our school. If you require any further information about road safety or the Walking School Bus please contact Marion Galloway on 021 325 376 or 271 5438 or [email protected]
