1What or who is AGHE? AGHE is the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education.

The Educational Unit of The Gerontological Society of America (GSA)

The Association for Gerontology in Higher Education (aka AGHE)is the educational unit of The Gerontological Society of American (aka GSA). The offices of AGHE and GSA are located in Washington, DC. AGHE is the international leader in advancing education on aging and is the only institutional membership organization devoted primarily to gerontology and geriatrics education since 1974.2

MissionTo advance gerontology and geriatrics education in academic institutionsTo provide leadership and support of gerontology and geriatrics education faculty and students at education institutions.

What is AGHEs mission? AGHE's mission is two-fold: (1) To advance gerontology and geriatrics education in academic institutions; and (2) To provide leadership and support of gerontology and geriatrics education faculty and students at education institutions.3

& Member Institutionsprepare service delivery personnelwho will work directly with older adults

train educatorswho specialize in the physical, psycho-social, and policy domains of aging

educate the society at largeabout the processes of aging and the implications of an aging society

instruct older adultsseeking to maximize their options in a complex and challenging age.

AGHEand its member institutions are strongly committed to the well-being of older adults. Together, AGHE and aging-studies programs in institutions of higher education strive to:(1)prepare service delivery personnelwho will work directly with older adults;

(2)train educatorswho specialize in the physical, psycho-social, and policy domains of aging;

(3)educate the society at largeabout the processes of aging and the implications of an aging society; and

(4)instruct older adultsseeking to maximize their options in a complex and challenging age.4

MembershipInstitutions, not individuals, are members of AGHE.Individuals (including students) can be members of the Gerontological Society of America.As a student you are welcome to participate in the AGHE Student Committee (whether your institution is a member or not!).Winston-Salem State IS an AGHE Institutional Member!
