What kind of media institution might

distribute your product and why?

• I would personally try and acquire the services of a British film institution to promote a modernised and British version of film noir as so many film noirs are based in America because that’s where they were originally created, in the 1940’s. therefore it would

be interesting to create something of the sam genre but in a different context.

•My take of film noir is a more modernised and British version: what separates it from an American noir is that it doesn’t contain the novelties of American films; such as the foods they eat, the drinks they drink, the architecture-generally, the atmosphere differs in British films to American films.

• I think the promotion of my product in a British form is more intriguing for its genre as people are more compelled to watch something that has a different outlook of film-noir, as usually it’s portrayed with the same conventionalities all the time.

• In the case of film noir, conventions are usually associated with alcoholism and drugs to some extent, which my media film does represent in the sense that "John" drinks.

• However, we also went against some conventions in using modern clothing and an alternative music style.

• Several British film institutions would be willing to accept a film compelling a niche audience to watch as some of the most successful British films attract attention due to their individuality and down-to-earth frame of mind and dark, British humour.

• Having done some research into British film institutions I have found that film 4 often are attracted to promoting films that bring niche audiences to the screen. niche audiences consist of a small fraction of the population of people that prefer something different to what the majority of the rest of the population like.

• what makes these kinds of films so attractive to niche audiences is the concept that they don’t promote the conventions that are portrayed so regularly in media forms today. instead they attempt different interpretations of film

• Popular British institutions include the British film institution, vertigo films, the BBC, the UK Film Council (in partnership with the BFI) and Film Four.

• I think that having looked into what they’re interested in that out of these companies I would most likely be supported by the bbc or film four as these are both attracted to britishindependent films and companies whereas vertigo films for example, is more interested in FUNDING commercially driven films. Plus, on a personal level, I enjoy the films that film4 promote and show on their channel, making it a personal

• Usually in small, developing film companies such as Shoebox Films, they promote themselves through film festivals. the winning of awards is more likely to make the film easier to promote if they have something to boast about. shoebox itself has won for their film "Locke" the best screenplay award at the British Independent Film awards. it also won best editor at the European Awards and best actor for the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards.

• Through entering into film festivals and award ceremonies, I would be bound to win something and in doing this, it increases the chance of distributors such as iron global who distributed for “Locke”, getting in contact with me and investing in my film; if they think it could be a success.

• In conclusion I think film4 would be a good choice to invest in my film because as well as making their own British hits, such as “this is England”, they also promote films INTERNATIONALLY, NOT JUST NATIONALLY. If I wasn’t able to achieve getting their support I would try to fall back on one of the other companies I mentioned before. However, film4 would be my first choice due to their volatile promotion of a variety of film oddities and their background in British films. PLUS Having WORKED WITH THE COMPANY WARP X FILMS, THEY HAVE TOGETHER, have CHALLENGED other FILM COMPANIES TO CREATE FILMS WITH Smaller BUDGETS, IN ORDER TO ENCOURAGE
