WHAT IS AN INSTITUTE?
A media institution is an established, and often
profit based organization, that deals in the
creation and distribution of advertising,
entertainment and information services.
It helps in gathering information, and
perceptions about different groups of people
and their originality.
MY MAGAZINE - DISTORTED
For this project I created a magazine that would be themed and targeted at an audience aimed 16-25, males and females and within the Rock/ Indie Category. When developing and writing my market research blog I researched many different magazines with different age categories, genres and target audiences
When I started to produce my magazine and develop my magazine, I decided that the main 2 magazines I wanted to take ideas and develop on were Kerrang Magazine and NME, these magazines are highly professional and have a strong place within the media industry and have a strong reputation for their information, graphic design, structure and profit generation from their target audience.
NME is more and Indie Rock a magazine and Kerrang is more generally themed on Rock Music, when creating my magazine I decided I wanted to combine the 2 genres together and bring something potentially new to the media industry and give a more varied and special media product to my indented target audience, so that Rock and Indie Music loves with enjoy my magazine and not only enjoy but will become frequent readers of my magazine and this will ultimately lead to generation of more profit and a strong reputation of my magazine, DISTORTED, and give a more different perspective of media products within the current media industry.

Bauer Media Group is
a multinational media company headquartered
in Hamburg, Germany which operates in 16
countries worldwide. Since the company was
founded in 1875, it has been privately owned
and under management by the Bauer family.
Worldwide circulation of Bauer Media Group's
magazine titles amounts to 38 million
magazines a week. I believe Bauer Media
would be a professional Media Institution to
distribute and publish my magazine, the
company distributes magazines such as
Kerrang, Q and Mojo. When developing my
magazine during production, I used influences
of Kerrang magazine is a Rock magazine, one
of the main genres my magazine is based on
and aimed for Rock music Audiences.

I believe that is Bauer magazine published
my magazine it would become very
successful as I have developed some of the
main codes and conventions from Kerrang.
I believe my magazine would be a more
niche product and its more developed and
challenging other and more different music
magazines in the media industry at the
moment.
My magazine will be different and perhaps
something new for Bauer Media to publish
as their magazines currently in production
are themed and male orientated. However,
my magazine attracts not only a male
audience but females too, therefore my
magazine will attract younger and a larger
and more varied audience.

The 2nd Publisher that I would choose to
publish my magazine would be IPC Media.
IPC Media is one of the leading media
institutions in the UK, it’s the publisher of
professional and best selling magazines like
NME and Guitar & Media, NME is one of the
magazines that I taken influence off for my
magazine and is a magazine that is also like
my target audience and the same genre of
music.
26 Million adults in the UK read a magazine
published by IPC Media, so by using them to
publish my magazine, I will have a professional
and well known company to publish and
distribute my magazine.
IPC Media also is within the age and music
genre category as my magazine, when
developing my magazine I used some features
and developed/ challenged some of the codes
and conventions NME used within their
magazines to ensure a successful and
professional magazine overall.

IPC Media distribute magazines across the
UK and are known for their professional
reputation, I feel that IPC Media would be
able to produce my magazine as it largely
appeals to my target audiences, NME’s
target audience is for men, aged 18-34, 18-
25 year olds are within my intended target
audience, I took a lot of influence and ideas
and developed ideas from NME
magazine, however I have developed my
magazine by not only developing key
features like mast head, structure etc., but I
have also challenged the codes and
conventions of magazines by not limiting my
intended target audience just to males, I
have varied it between men and women and
not giving a sexist view towards rock music
being a males only music genre.
