I think my film would be shown on the television rather than at the cinema, as it is a low budget film and our lack of funding would also prevent us from marketing the film effectively. The lack of well-known actors, directors and producers would prevent people from being as interested in the film and as a result it would probably fail if it was released in the cinemas.

The editors and actors in my thriller are not well-known which could affect the film’s popularity

Putting the film on television would allow many people to watch it without having to attract them through marketing

It would be possible to distribute my film on a DVD or as a paid download if it gained enough popularity. The pros of distributing my film in this manner would be that it would be a way to make more money off the film and to track the film’s popularity based off sales. The cons of distributing my film digitally would be that it could be pirated more easily and a lack of marketing and well known actors could lead to poor sales for a DVD which would have to be mass produced.

DVDs would have to be produced in mass and would therefore only be a good idea if the film gained popularity

Illegal downloading from the internet has become more common in recent times

My film has a significantly lower budget than professional films and as a result it is more basic and has less added effects. I also had limited technology available when producing my film and had a strict time limit in which my filming and editing had to be done. I also only had a few actors – all of whom were inexperienced – available to act in my film and as a result the acting is more rushed and less professional than it would be in a professional film.

I did not have much experience on Adobe Premiere and had to adapt to it quickly due to

my strict deadline

Due to our strict time limit and it being difficult for us to obtain equipment we had to do all of

our filming in one evening, with only a few takes for each shot (a professional film can

have hundreds of takes for just one shot and can take years to film)

A distributor such as Film4 would be most suitable for my film, as they regularly screen films on television instead of in the cinema. They also screen films that are not necessarily popular or well known which can help lower budget films receive airtime and popularity. Film4 also features a ‘on demand’ system where films that have gained popularity and enough requests will be shown on the television or be made available on the internet.

Film4 allows lesser known films (such as “Only Yesterday”, seen in the image below) to gain popularity without large amounts of money having to be spent on

marketing
