Types of companies that Produce and Distribute
There are two types of companies which produce and distribute films and they are;
Big Major Companies And
Smaller independent companies
Big Major Companies
These type of companies Produce and Distribute mainstream films that have a huge budget and target a global audience.Most of these companies are part of conglomerate, which means one huge company owns a dozen more. They can get help when needed whether it means having financial or legal help.Some examples would be “Universal Studios”, “Walk Disney” and “Warner Bros”.A film that has a big major production and distribution company is “Skyfall”. It is produced by “Eon Productions” and “MGM” and it is distributed by “Sony” and “Columbia”.
Small independent Companies
Small independent companies produce and distribute low budget films that are probably made by new film makers. This film may have a national or local audience targeting a small specific audience.Some example of these companies are “Rooks nest entertainment”, “Wild Horses Company” and “A.M. Productions”.A film that uses a small independent company is “My Brother the devil” that is produced by “Rooks nest entertainment” and “Wild Horses Company” . It was distributed by “Verve Pictures”.
Our Production and Distribution Company
In our thriller opening we decided to use a small independent company for our production and distribution company. This is because they specialise in low budget films like “Young Eyes”.
Although there are many more production and distribution companies that specialise in low budget films we chose “Candi Studio Pictures” as we felt they were more reliable due to past films.
Reasons Why? We chose to pick “Candi Studio Pictures” as our
production and distribution company because our film is on a low budget and no big major companies will invest in a movie like ours.Being on a low budget effects many things such as advertising, casting and exhibitionWe wont be able to advertise with huge billboards and posters whilst getting huge movie stars due to the low budget. Also not all cinemas will be able to exhibit out film as we wouldn't be able to afford it.
Advertising
As we cannot afford to have huge advertising campaigns like billboards and posters we decided to use social networking. Facebook and Twitter was free so it would make sense to use them to reach our audience and notify them of our filmAlso a movie trailer would be useful to put up online on websites like “Youtube” so more people can be notified.
