What is the worst date you have ever been on? If you had to be married to a fictional movie character who would it be and why? (be careful guys)


Have you ever found yourself at a time in your life where you felt like Job must have felt during his suffering? If so, explain.

Read Job 9: 20-21As Jobs suffering increases so does his impatience, doubt and despair. Explain why you think it is or is not wrong to be overwhelmed with these emotions during tough times?



Read Job 1: 20-22What do you think it was that empowered Job to be able to handle this initial test the way that he did?



As Chapter four unfolds we find Job facing the judgment of his friends rather than being comforted by them. How do those around us affect how we react to suffering in our own lives? Name a time that you were either encouraged or discouraged by those closest to you during a tough time.



Read Job 42: 8-10What kind of example did Job set for his friends?Life is hard for non-believers and believers alike. How can we be an example to others during our struggles in a way that differentiates us from the remainder of the world?



Read Hebrews 12: 7-10As we try to come to an understanding that in the middle of our suffering that God is still good and allows us to endure pain in order to ultimately be blessed, can you recall a time in your life as a parent that you allowed your child to experience some sort of pain in order to experience growth? Or as a son, daughter or employee were allowed to experience this for yourself?



Read Romans 8:28How does this verse speak of Gods goodness? Does God really mean “ALL” things?



Explain a situation in your life where this knowledge would have made it easier to have navigated your way through what you were dealing with:



Read 2 Corinthians 4: 16-18In order to be encouraged in the middle of hard times we should not necessarily seek an answer as to “why is this happening to me” but rather “How is God going to be glorified in this? Name some benefits to the problems we face in our lives:



Read Job 42:12 Obviously Job did not know that the ladder part of his life would be blessed more than the first yet he abided in God through his suffering. Job exemplifies what we read in Romans 5: 1-6. What special qualities should we expect God to be developing in our lives during difficult times?



What area in your life can you share that God has brought you this peace and has proven that He has not given up on you?



Application:

1) Go out of your way this week to be prayerful about your suffering. Ask God to reveal to you the qualities He is developing in you during these tough times. Thank Him for loving you so much that He is willing to see you endure suffering so that you may ultimately be blessed.

2) Resilience isn't about toughing it out, being stoic or going it alone. In fact, being able to reach out to others for support is a key component of being resilient in tough times. Reach out to someone in your group this week just to share how this is working for you and to offer encouragement where needed.
