WHAT IS THE TUP?The Theater und Philharmonie Essen – TUP for short – stands for captivating musical theatre and ballet evenings in the Aalto-Theater, glamorous concerts in the Philharmonie Essen and gripping drama in the Grillo-Theater, the Casa and the Box.

The Aalto-TheaterThe opera house – designed by the Finnish architect Alvar Aal-to and located at the Essener Stadtgarten – is "the place to be" when it comes to exciting musical theatre and ballet. Musical theatre stands for unique pieces of art: vocal and orchestral music, combined with fascinating set design, ensure unfor-gettable experiences – from large-scale operas like “Carmen” or “The Marriage of Figaro” to entertaining operettas such as “The Land of Smiles”. There are short introductions be-fore nearly all events. Classical ballet to indulge in and to de-light– that is what the Aalto Ballet Essen offers in “Sleeping Beauty”, “Swan Lake” or “Onegin”. You can even experience a modern rock ballet with “Rock around Baroque” or the “Dance Tribute to Queen”.

The Grillo-Theater, the Casa, the BoxGet off the sofa and go to the theatre! In the Schauspiel Essen’s venues, you can experience touching, entertaining and pas-sionate stories: brand-new productions at the Grillo-Theater are, among others, “The Fire Raisers” by Max Frisch, “After Midnight”, a play about alcohol(ism) and human abysses, with songs by Eric Clapton, Johnny Cash and Leonard Cohen, and Hans Falladas “Little man – what now?“, a moving journey back in time to the years after the First World War. Also wait-ing for you are the theatrical adventure game “Sign Here”, the globetrotting “Peer Gynt” and “The Marquess of O…”.

The Philharmonie EssenLike the Aalto-Theater, the Philharmonie Essen is also located directly at the Stadtgarten park. Here, you can experience a first-class, multi-faceted concert programme: world-renowned orchestras, conductors, singers and musicians ensure en-thralling encounters with classical music and jazz. From the London Philharmonic Orchestra to the WDR Big Band, from Cecilia Bartoli to Yannick Nézet-Séguin. The Essener Philhar-moniker also present their symphonic concerts here. Variety is provided, not least, by the crossover series “Takeover! by MIKI” and the club night “Wildcard”.

Regularly enrolled students at the University of Duisburg-Essen and the Folk-wang University of the Arts can visit nearly all in-house events (opera, ballet, drama and concerts) from the Theater und Philhar-monie Essen for € 1.00 – as long as there are spaces still available.You can find the current programme at www.theater-essen.de.

What do I need to do? Complete the request form and submit it, together with your current student credentials, to the Theater und Philharmonie Essen.

From 7 days on before an event, you can buy or reserve an admis-sion ticket. Your tickets will be reserved only until a day before the event, and have to be collected at our booking offices in advance. Reserved tickets cannot be purchased at the box office on the night of the event. Regardless of whether you have made ticket reserva-tions, always turn up at the box office on the night of the event, as there often are tickets available at short notice.

Fancy a première? On première nights in the Aalto-Theater and Schauspiel Essen you can – if seats are still available – get hold of a ticket at the box office on the night of the première.

The KulturTicket is a cooperation between the Theater und Phil-harmonie Essen (TUP), the student representation of the Univer-sity of Duisburg-Essen (AStA) and that of the Folkwang University of the Arts. This is your chance to visit nearly all TUP events (op-era, ballet, drama, concerts) for € 1.00.*To do so, you only have to fill out this request form and submit it with your current student credentials** to the TUP (at any box office, via mail or email).We will then send you your KulturTicket pass which you can show next time you buy a ticket.By showing your request and student credentials at the box office, you can make use of the KulturTicket immediately.

HOW DOES THE KULTURTICKET WORK?

From 7 days on before an event, you can buy or reserve admission to an event at our presales locations (see reverse). The reserva-tion will be upheld until one day before the event, so tickets have to be collected at our booking offices in advance. Regardless of whether you have made ticket reservations, you can always show up at our box office on the night of the event: there are tickets available often at short notice.Online purchase of tickets with the KulturTicket pass is not pos-sible, nor is a purchase from external presales locations. Your ticket reservation does not include individual seat selection!

WHAT IS THE KULTURTICKET VALID FOR?

With the KulturTicket, you can get tickets for nearly all events by the Theater und Philharmonie Essen (opera, ballet, drama, concerts) for € 1.00 per ticket. Guest performances, externally organised events, special shows and some concerts by the Phil-harmonie are excluded from this deal.Tickets for premières at the Aalto-Theater and Schauspiel Essen can – if available – be purchased at the box office on the première night.

HOW DO I APPLY FOR THE KULTURTICKET?

1. Fill out the form: please fill out the form as part of an onetime application.

2. Submit: send in the completed form, together with your current student credentials.You have the following options to get it to us:

3. Get started: We will then send you your KulturTicket pass within two weeks and you can show it for verification next time you buy a ticket. By showing the request and student credentials at the box office, you can immediately use the KulturTicket.

4. Update: For every semester, you must send your current student credentials to kulturticket@tup-online.de or hand them in at one of our box offices so that the validity of your KulturTicket can be extended for another semester.

CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION

The TUP KulturTicket programmeThe KulturTicket is a cooperation between the Theater and Philharmonie Essen GmbH, the student representation at the University of Duisburg-Essen and at the Folkwang University of the Arts (AStA). It is valid for enrolled students at the University of Duisburg-Essen and the Folkwang University of the Arts who have paid the complete student body contribution for the current semester. The following conditions of participation regulate the use of the KulturTicket.

1. Registration and participation By requesting participation, the applicant accepts the T&Cs of the Theater und Philharmonie Essen. Participation is allowed for enrolled students at the University of Duisburg-Essen and the Folkwang University of the Arts who have paid the stu-dent body contribution for the current semester. Only one KulturTicket can be applied for and used per person. To process the application, current student credentials from the University of Duisburg-Essen or the Folkwang University of the Arts are required. After the Theater und Phil-harmonie Essen processes the request, the KulturTicket will be sent via mail to the applicant. If lost or damaged, a replacement ticket can be requested for a charge of € 5.00.

2. Programme description The KulturTicket entitles the owner to get a ticket for an in-house event by the TUP from 7 days before the event at the price of € 1.00. Tickets for premières at the Aalto-Theater and Schauspiel Essen – if available – can only be purchased from the box office. Ordering a € 1.00 ticket online is not possible; neither is buying one from an external presales lo-cation. You have no claim to individual seat selection. Guest performances, externally organised events and some concerts by the Philharmonie Essen are excluded from this deal. The discount offered by the KulturTicket cannot be combined with any other offers.

3. Data protection We collect and use your personal data exclusively within the limits of the Federal Republic of Germany’s Data Protection Laws and the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation. Your personal data are stored until the purpose of processing is achieved and beyond this on the basis of legal limits of retention.The legal justification for this data processing is Art. 6 Para. 1 lit. b GDPR. If the processing is based on special consent, the legal basis is Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a) GDPR. You are able at any time to withdraw consent with future effect. This revocation does not affect the legality of any processing up to that point.The data protection officer can be contacted at: Theater und Philharmonie Essen GmbH, Der Datenschutzbeauftragte, Opernplatz 10, 45128 Essen.

4. Transferability The TUP KulturTicket is personalized and cannot be transferred to third par-ties. The ticket can only be collected by its owner in person.

5. Validity The KulturTicket is valid from authorisation of the request by the Theater und Philharmonie Essen during the semester for which student credentials have been submitted. Validity can be extended each semester by submitting the new student credentials as evidence of enrolment to TUP. Validity ends if the student or the Theater und Philharmonie Essen make use of the right to termination, or the cooperation between TUP and the AStA ends.

6. Termination Owners of the KulturTicket have the right to terminate the KulturTicket at any time without notice. Termination by the Theater und Philharmonie Essen is possible within four weeks’ notice if the termination takes place with good reason. The Theater und Philharmonie Essen reserves the right to end the KulturTicket programme at any time, giving certain notice, without giving reasons, and/or to replace it with another programme. Once the termination is in force, the KulturTicket can no longer be used.

7. Right of cancellation The application, once sent in, can be cancelled by the applicant within 14 days in textual form (e.g. letter, email, fax), without giving any reason.

8.Final provision Place of performance is Essen.

* Students can get a maximum of one ticket per person for personal use at a price of € 1.00.** On the student credentials, information such as date of birth, matriculation number and

number of semesters can be blackened out.
