At the Energy Information Administration, we provide policy-neutraldata, forecasts, and analyses to promote sound policy making,

efficient markets, and public understanding regarding energy and itsinteraction with the economy and the environment.

Created by the Congress in 1977, EIA is the statistical agency of the U.S.Department of Energy and as such is the Nations premier source ofunbiased energy data, analysis and forecasting. By law, EIAs products areprepared independently of Administration policy considerations. EIA neither

formulates nor advocates any policy conclusions.

EIA provides a wide range of information and data products covering energyproduction, stocks, demand, imports, exports, and prices; and preparesanalyses and special reports on topics of current interest. These productsare derived from energy data that is collected by EIA staff. We design andsend our statistical surveys to energy producers, users, transporters, andcertain other businesses. Companies and households report directly to us.We also make use of data from other sources, such as trade associationsand other government agencies.
