How do we observe?

Observation

•An act of viewing or noting a fact or occurrence for some scientific purpose.

Inference •The process of arriving at some conclusion based on assumed premises.

Observation: - The plant is extremely

wilted.

- The car stopped running.

Inference: - The plant is extremely

wilted due to a lack of water.

- The car stopped running because it was out of gas.

With your partner…

Make an observation!

Now, make an inference for your observation.

Example 1:

•Ms. Lang OBSERVES she has a crack in her car windshield!?!?!

She INFERS that ET was texting and flying and caused his UFO to crash into her windshield, causing the crack!

With your partner…

Make your own observation and inference!

Remember you can use ANY of the 5 senses to make observations!!!
