WHAT IS SOKOL? Czech and Slovak Sokol Minnesota is a unit of the American Sokol Organizaon (ASO), which is associated with Czech and Slovak Sokol groups worldwide. Sokol was founded in Prague in 1862, to upliſt individuals by helping them to become physically fit, mentally alert, and morally strong.Sokol rapidly spread to other Euro- pean countries; it was brought to the United States in 1865. Czech and Slovak Sokol Min- nesota was organized in 1882 and connues to promote the goal to develop sound minds in healthy bodies.Sokol is the Czech and Slovak word for falcon, a symbol of strength, beauty, harmony, and freedom. HALL The hall at 383 Michigan Street in Saint Paul has been the focal point and home for Sokol Minnesota acvies since its construcon in 1887. It is on the Naonal Register of Historic Places. Sokol Minnesota maintains the office of the Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic for Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota, and South Dakota on the first floor of the Hall. Marit Lee Kucera is the current Honorary Consul. The hall is available for rentals; diverse groups have used it for a wide variety of events. For complete rental informaon, call 651-290-0542. Sokol was founded in Prague in 1862, to uplift individuals by helping them to become “physically fit, mentally alert, and morally strong.” Sokol rapidly spread to other Euro-pean countries; it was brought to the United States in 1865. Czech and Slovak Sokol Min-nesota was organized in 1882 and continues to promote the goal to “develop sound

minds in healthy bodies.”
