What is Saints Robotics?

• A student-run non-profit ASB organization

• Part of FIRST: For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology

• Participate in FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC)

How does Saints Robotics differ from other clubs/organizations?

• Heavy reliance on technology/information

• Large minimum yearly budget

• Focus on the “real world” and associated skills: going from idea to product

• Close interaction with adult administration: “The Man”

• Corporate ideology: “exploit it”

• Sustainable leadership model

What do we do?

• Hardware/build: design and build robots• Public Relations: promotion, image, fundraising• Software

– Website: create and maintain website. Create content. Compete for website award.

– Robot AI: program controller and autonomous mode for robot

– 3ds Max animation competition

• Auxiliary: Student Store, FIRST Lego League mentorship

What is the ultimate goal?

• Foster interest in math/science-related careers

• Create a team atmosphere• Develop real-world thinking skills

– Nothing gets done by itself– Ex: Paper does not buy itself, robot doesn’t

self-assemble, websites don’t simply appear– Working with the bureaucracy

• Represent Interlake at Microsoft Seattle Regional FRC: win awards

What do we lack and need?

• Funds: – Sponsorships– Donations

• Expertise/mentorship– Website design– Computer engineering– Electrical engineering– Mechanical engineering– Team organization– Official representation– Financial guidance

How have we fared?

• 2006: bottom third– 3 people at competition– Only $6,000 of funds

• 2007: 39th out of 54– 9 people at competition– Only $7,000 of funds– No hardware mentors

• 2008: – Funds so far: $3,500– 44 members
