WHAT IS RESEARCH?BY TROY MARTEN

Research is a creative way of finding out anything and everything. Everyone has researched something in their life no matter what it is. There are a numberof research studies, such as Scientific, Humanities, Artistic, Economic, Social Business, etc.

PSYCHOGRAPHIC AND DEMOGRAPHIC

Psychographic research uses Demographics to study the

tastes and attitudes of certain people in a population, such as

marketing studies; what they like to buy, what things they

seem interested in, etc. it also asks the opinions of people, to

further study their lifestyles.

Demographic research is the statistical data of population,

mainly focusing on Age, sex, income, people’s education, etc.

QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH

Collecting and converting data into numeric data,

so you can make statistical calculations and have

conclusions be drawn. It is used in sociology,

economics, physiology and political science.

Quantitative Research uses scientific methods,

such as hypothesis.

Usually a large number of cases.

QUALITATIVE RESEARCH

Qualitative Research’s objectives are to

understand how to underlay reasons and

motivations.

Uses group discussions and individual depth

interviews to help collect data.

Helps widespread thoughts into groups and

discussions.

PRIMARY RESEARCH

Primary research is research that you do yourself

without using information from things, such as the

internet and Books. Examples include taking notes,

doing questionnaires, etc.

SECONDARY RESEARCH

Secondary research is using research that already exists for

some other purpose. It is also Inexpensive. Classified sources

are broken down to 2 things:

Internal: data that’s been generated inside the organization.

Ex; stock records, consumer data, consumer complaints, etc.

External: data generated from outside the organization. Ex;

Government statistics, Trade publications, magazine survey’s,

etc.

RESEARCH METHODS: BOOKS

Books: before the internet, books were the number

1 research methods. Books have been made about

everything and anything, and show reliable evidence

with pictures and quotes.

RESEARCH METHODS: INTERNET

Internet: the internet is the number 1 source of research today. With sites such as Wikipedia, Yahoo answers, AskJeeves, Google and Dogpile. The Internet shows Quotes and images to back up the research and information.

ADVANTAGES

Internet : Quotes from famous people, Pictures of

proof,

Books: Images of proof, Quotes from famous

people, can be the original copy of said book and

unaltered.

DISADVANTAGE

Internet: not always reliable as people can alter

anything, pictures can be photo shopped.

Books: takes a while to get to intended data,

simple speculation.

SOCIAL RESEARCH

Social Research is Research done by Social Scientists,

who focus on everyday happenings, such as research on

individuals, street monitoring, etc.

Quantitative research on social research relies on

quantifiable evidence and to be able to create valid claims

by analyzing statistics.

Qualitative research on social research relies on

communication with people and analyzing texts
