Effective ICT is Engage and enthuse learners Raise achievement Enable better understanding Foster improved communication Have a positive impact on workload 11. Exercise This exercise provides a scenario involving theuse of ICT. You have to give it a score from 0 -10, according to how effective you think theuse of ICT is. 12. Scenario 1 Not really being sure, but using the computersto allow the students to play a few games tokeep em busy. 13. 0 This is completely pointless in terms ofeffective ICT. This is using the computers tokeep students occupied. With some limitedpreparation you could provide students withsome specific learning games or directlyrelated content.... 14. Scenario 2 Providing students with an online glossary toaccompany their worksheet - so they canchoose to get additional support if they wantto. 15. 8 This is an excellent way of supportingstudents learning, creating differentiationwithin the lesson. If students requireadditional support they can use ICT to helpthemselves - without needing to consult theteacher. 16. Scenario 3 Using a microphone in your laptop/mobilephone to get students to record a radioreport. 17. 9 This can be a particularly effective. It canbecome a role-play activity, recorded using ICT- leading onto audio work that can beassessed by their classmates. Can also beused as podcast projects. 18. Scenario 4 Deciding not to use ICT as you feel a task isfine as it is. 19. 10 This - whilst being a little daft, is a veryeffective use of ICT - it is essential to only useICT when it will have a positive effect on thetask. Sometimes the most effective use canbe not to use it! 20. More scenarios to think about Allowing students greater control over theirwork by selecting and justifying the mostappropriate program to complete a task. Playing an interactive quiz or game as aplenary. Showing the worksheet via a digital projectorrather than a photocopying a class set. Getting students to use their mobile phone inyour lesson. 21. Final thought "Technology is nothing. Whatsimportant is that you have faith inpeople, that theyre basicallygood and smart, and if you givethem tools, theyll do wonderfulthings with them. - Steve Jobs
