Spiritual Retreat at Alton L. Collins Retreat Center

“Staying Spiritually Authentic in a Chaotic World” was the topic led by Lois Wagner, a retired pastor and musician. “There’s this on-going tension of not being of the world, yet being sent into the world.”

“Spirituality is a deep, inner connection to the presence of the Devine Mystery – the Creator, and to the foundations for my faith. It manifests in the choices I make, the way I treat others.”

If we have Authenticity we are finding and strengthening “self” amongst the chaos and rancor. Lois quotes Brene Brown, “True belonging is the spiritual practice of believing in and belonging to yourself so deeply that you can share your most authentic self with the world and find sacredness in both being a part of something and standing alone in the wilderness. True belonging . . . requires you to be who you are.” Becky Akins and I have more notes we could share with you.

April Plant Sale

The gardeners among us are planting and transplanting plants in preparation for a Sunday, April 28th plant sale. It will be held during coffee hour after worship that day. Why not check your garden areas out and determine where a blank spot needs filling in. We will have perennials and annuals available.

Since we gave our “normal” spot to Bethlehem Lutheran, we have accepted April 7 to 14th as our next hosting week. We appreciate those who have signed up to participate for this time. You will be receiving your confirmation the week before. We will be inviting the families to join us at the

Soup Supper, with a little bit more food added. Let us be grateful that we are able to keep families inside, out of the rain, wind, and cold at this time.

Native American Ministries Sunday

Native American Ministries Sunday celebrates and supports the 157 Native American United Methodist churches that are part of the denomination. On May 5, our special offering helps directly support Native American congregations to authentically minister with their communities and provides scholarships for Native American seminary students.

Did you know that more than 20,000 Native American people are part of The United Methodist Church? Through gifts shared on this Special Sunday, United Methodist Native American seminary students and congregations are empowered to develop new ministries that honor creative expression of their culture. They are equipped to form new ministry partnerships and coalitions, encouraging community reconciliation and restoration.

What is Maundy Thursday?Maundy Thursday is an alternate name for Holy Thursday, the first of the three days of solemn remembrance of the events leading up to and immediately following the crucifixion of Jesus. The English word "Maundy" comes from the Latin mandatum, which means "commandment." As recorded in John's gospel, on his last night before his betrayal and arrest, Jesus washed the feet of his disciples and then gave them a new commandment to love one another as he had loved them (John 13:34). This is why services on this night generally include the washing of feet or other acts of physical care as an integral part of the celebration.

While John's gospel does not record the institution of the Lord's Supper among the events of this night, the other gospels do. Christians therefore keep this night with celebrations both at the basin (footwashing) and at the Lord's Table (Holy Communion).
