What is GATE ?

• G-Amini Annual Talent Explosion

• Aim was to promote self confidence and communicate HIV prevention, care, treatment information and service uptake

• Identifies/recognizes talent in the performing arts realm, nurtures, and promotes it towards communicating health and linking to market opportunities

• Targets the out school youth

Where did GATE come from?

• Inspired by the level of creativity, innovation, inventions and ingenious ability of young people as witnessed by Community Based Youth Groups working towards Behavior Change Communication

• GATE recognized that out of school youth had limited opportunities particularly young thespians/artistes who would appreciate making a living out of their talent

What did we achieve?

• Engaged 50 Youth Groups/CBOs at National

• Provided a platform for 4,000 out of school youth to showcase their talent and prowess to the national and international talent industry

• Tested 1,587 at festival

• Enhanced PEPFAR IP and Public-Private Partnership(USAID, CDC, WRP, KU, Nokia, Royal Media, KIFF, MOYAS)

• Immediate recording, performing contracts

• Exposure to talent Opportunity (Omondi, Focus Youth Group, Unique world Viewers, Makry Group etc)

• Linkage to Economic Opportunities (shows at public occasions, Mcing, Merchandizing)

Who is involved?

• Community Based Youth Groups comprising of out of school youth from Rift Valley, Nairobi, Western, Central, Coast, Eastern Nyanza and NEP

• Involved Mentors, Role models and Talent Scouts

• Supported by HFG, APHIAplus through USAID, NOPE, LVCT, HWWK, IMPACT RDO, NACC, MOYST and other cooperate partners

Design

• Except for Nyanza, three levels (District, Province, national)

• Anchored on 5 Philosophies of G-PANGE (Bias on G-AMINI)

• National Task Force that provides technical direction

• Provincial committees that coordinates the regional plan links with National Task Force

• Mentorship Plan for the groups and individuals

• Marketing Plan for linkages related to opportunities

• Documentation of the entire activity

• Quality assurance and standards
