What is Dental Implant?
It is an advanced medical technology for the treatment of tooth loss. A titanium implant is
implanted in the toothless area of the jawbone. The jawbone fuses with the titamium surface
providing a strong anchorage for the implant. The implant functions as a support for the dental
prosthesis constructed over it.
What are the benefits of Dental Implants?
It can treat cases untreatable with conventional methods of dental bridges and dentures.
It prevents further resorption of the jaw bone following tooth loss.
It can perfectly restore chewing function
It avoids cutting down and overloading the natural teeth occurring with conventional
means of replacing tooth loss.
It helps restore a patient's self-esteem and confidence since it gives the feeling of
regaining the real teeth.
It functions better than conventional dental bridges and dentures.
It gives superior aesthetic results.
Am I a suitable candidate for Dental Implant?
You will be a suitable candidate for oral implant if you fulfill the following requirements:
You must be medically fit to undergo ordinary surgery.
You jaw must have enough bone to support the implant.
(If not, bone grafting may be required)
There must be enough space to accommodate the prosthesis over the implant.
You must understand what the treatment can offer.
You must realize to what extend the treatment can meet your expectations.
Should I consider Dental Implants?
You should consider oral Implant when:
You do not want to have your natural teeth cut down which is required in making your
conventional dental bridge.
You cannot wear or chew well with your denture.
You cannot tolerate a denture in your mouth.
You do not want to damage your remaining teeth from wearing a partial denture.
You have lost your back teeth making it impossible to construct a conventional dental
bridge.
You have a long toothless spam which is not indicated for making a conventional dental
bridge.
You want superior aesthetic results with your tooth replacement.
You want the most effective way to restoring your chewing function.
What is involved in the implant procedure?
Once you and your doctor have identified your treatment plan, having a dental implant placed
can be as simple following
Step1
An Dental Implant is placed into your jawbone.
The operation is performed under aseptic condition at Aggarwal Dental Implant Centre
with proper facilities and condition for oral implant surgery.
Local anaesthesia is given for pain control during the operation. Intravenous sedation can
be given if necessary. Pain which may occur after the operation can be effectively
controlled with oral medications.
Step2 This part of the implant treatment does not require anaesthesia. Once the implant has
integrated into your jawbone, in a simple procedure, the implant is uncovered and a post
is attached to it. Impressions (models) of your upper and lower jaws are taken and sent to
a laboratory for the creation of your new tooth/teeth.
Step3
Your new tooth/teeth are atttached to the implant posts and are fully functional.
What should I expect after treatment?
Dental implants will require the same care as your natural teeth to keep your implant healthy,
proper brushing and flossing still apply!
How successful is the treatment?
Modern oral implants are highly successful with the success rate higher than 95%.
How long can an implant last ?
In view of the high success modern implant treatment a dental implant can be considered as a
long lasting permanent tooth that does not need to be changed.
Aggarwal Dental Implant Centre (ADIC ) is an integrated unit of Aggarwal Dental clinic within
the same premises. The centre is designed to impart implant training to other Dentists of north
India and to provide state of the art Dental Implant services at par with international standard to
the people of North India particularly Punjab.
ADIC has so far done around 750 successful implant placement. Some of the cases done at
ADIC are shown
Full Mouth Implants (Case1 : 42 yr female)
This 42 yr female patient reported with grossly carious and mobile teeth needing extraction .
After removal of all the teeth 8 implants were inserted in upper jaw and 8 in the lower jaw in two
surgeries one week apart.
Patient was given temporary Dentures . After 4 months, full mouth bridges were given on the
implants.
The implant supported bridges are in service for 5 years now.

Full Mouth Rehabilitation (Case2 : 65 yr male)
This 65 yr male is reported with instability of dentures and wanted fixed replacement.
Fixed bridges were not possible because of inadequate support from existing teeth.
6 implants in the upper jaw and 4 in the lower jaw were inserted to replace 14 teeth in upper jaw
and 4 teeth in the lower jaw. Four lower front teeth were replaced with a 4 unit bridge supported
on two lateral incisors.
Case 1
A 50 years old patient presented with two missing and two mobile lower front teeth and very bad
oral hygiene. Mobile teeth were removed and two Anthofit Implants inserted. Four front teeth
fixed over two implants

for last 2 years but was unhappy because of need to remove and clean every night. During
surgery 4 screw type Anthogyr ( Made in France ) implants were inserted and teeth were fixed
over the implants after 4 months. During this period of 4 months he was wearing temporary
restoration. He is all smiles with his new set of permanent teeth

Case2
This 19 year female lost her two front teeth in a bike accident. The third one ( Central incisor )
was broken which was repaired by RCT , Post and Core and Crown. Other two teeth were

Making of a successful complete denture has always been a very challenging task. In spite of the
best effort on the part of Dentist, most of the patients are unhappy because of lack of retention ,
stability and support. Patients frequently complains of denture ulceration because of movement
of Dentures during function. Difficult Phonetics and compromised aesthetics are other
complaints. One of the options to treat such patients is implant supported fixed restoration. But
this option is not always possible because of high cost or lack of adequate bone height and width
in resorbed ridges. Implant overdentures are the treatment of choice for such cases. Some of the
advantages of overdentures are
Minimal bone resorption of residual ridge
Under a normal denture average bone resorption is 4mm per year compared to 1mm
under an overdenture.
An overdenture provide greater support of the lip and soft tissue of the face then a fixed
prosthesis
Denture teeth are more esthetic then PFM
Less lateral movement as compared to a normal denture which move about 10 mm during
function.
Chewing efficiency improve by 20 % and maximum occlusal load by 300%.
Less soft tissue coverage is needed.
Hygiene conditions and home maintenance is improved with an overdenture compared to
a fixed prosthesis
Prosthesis is easier to repair than a fixed prosthesis.
Reduced cost to the patient.
Hemimandibulectomy and maxillectomy patients can be rehabilitated using implant
overdenture.
Overdenture may be removed at bedtime to reduce the effect of nocturnal parafunction.
Tongue and perioral musculature may resume a more natural position as they are no
longer required to limit denture movement.
Indications for Implant Overdentures
Severely resorbed ridges
Anatomically Deficient ridges due to previous disease or trauma
Patients unable to tolerate maxillary denture due to gag reflex
Patient’s demand for more retention stability and support for lower prosthesis
Overdentures at Aggarwal Dental Clinic are made using MIB Implants from Anthogyr a french
company . For more details visit www.anthogyr.com

Complete Overdenture using MIB implants
Case History : This 70 Yr old male was always unhappy with his full Denture because of
instability and full palate coverage required by conventional Dentures. 3 MIB implants in the
lower jaw amd 4 in the upper one solved all his problems. Not only upper denture was made
palate free , both the dentures now does not move during mastication or speech.

Partial Overdenture Using MIB implants
Case History : This 20 year old Taxi driver lost all his teeth in the upper jaw because of
Osteomyeitis. Dental Rehabilitation was difficult because of lack of bone except in the canine
region where two MIB implants were inserted and Removable partial Denture made. This
denture is in service since September 2003

Mandibular Overdenture with MIB implants
Case History : This 85 yr male has a grossly resorbed lower ribge with no bone support for
lower denture. 4 MIB implants were inserted and lower denture stabilized. He is a social worker
and has to speak in gatherings. Now he is confident because his lower denture does not move any
more.
