In Lan, Advent means coming. When children say, “I can’t wait for Christmas,” they convey what it means to live in Advent. With joy they are waing for an event that is good, that has been promised, and is, for now, hidden from sight. Advent marks the period of four Sundays before Christmas. In this me, we prepare for the giſt of the Christ child who is born into the world. Advent is indeed a preparaon for Christmas, but it is more: it is a vision of what God will yet do in the world. One symbol of this waing is the lighng of the Advent Wreath. We pracce this liturgy on each of the four Sundays in Advent as we light the candles of Hope, Peace, Joy and Love. The Christ Candle is lit on Christmas Eve.

What is Advent? In Latin, Advent means coming. When children say, “I can’t wait for Christmas,” they convey what it means to live in Advent. With joy they are waiting for an event that is good, that has been promised, and is, for now, hidden from sight. Advent marks the period of four Sundays before Christmas. In this time, we prepare for the gift of the Christ child who is born into the world. Advent is indeed a preparation for Christmas, but it is more: it is a vision of what God will yet do in the world.

One symbol of this waiting is the lighting of the Advent Wreath. We practice this liturgy on each of the four Sundays in Advent as we light the candles of Hope, Peace, Joy and Love. The Christ Candle is lit on Christmas Eve.
