What Is A Thriller?
Definition:
A film specifically designed to give b viewers feelings of suspense, n excitement, surprise, anticipation and anxiety.
-The first thriller genres where thought to be those of Alfred Hitchcock:
SUBGENRES
ACTION-THRILLER• A thriller that focuses on action, explosions,
fighting. Films in this genre include the borne films, James Bond and the taken trilogy.
• They don't necessary need to be overly gory and tense but do need to have sequences were tension is built up and held.
CRIME-THRILLER• These involves criminal activity and is usually
focuses from the criminals POV and the antagonist is usually the police or something similar.
• The only thing that separates this from the classical thriller is the criminal aspect. Crime thrillers can be gory and suspenseful. An example of this would be The Sweeny.
DISARSTER-THRILLER• Usually focused on a natural disaster. The main
character is usually tying to stop or survive the disaster. A good example of this genre is The Impossible.
• They are not normally as suspenseful but usually quite gory and very emotionally hard hitting.
PYSOCOLOGICAL- THRILLER• The most popular kind, this is a thriller that
intentionally screws with the viewers mind. Tension is built up with twists and turns in the storyline.
• They are usually not too gory but they deal with difficult subjects such as abduction, rape or murder. A good example are most of Alfred Hitchcock's films.
