What have I Learnt from my Feedback?

Demographics halls readings how dierent audiences perceived my video

dierently subject a subject b and subject c mrs prince one of the kids and adults

ethnicity gender ualitative and uantative primary and secondary focus group

versus uestionnaire hawthorne impact you watching someone speaking has on

    their response written and verbal

Firstly I used a range of dierent ways to get feedback from my audience

including primary and secondary research! "y #rst objective was to choose a

range of demographic and see how each person would react to my music video!

    $ubject % was an %dult aged &'( $ubject ) was a mi*ed group of +, year olds

which contained dierent races( religions and genders! Lastly $ubject - was a

group of early teens aged +./+0! %fter showing $ubject % my music video and

asked what they thought( it was clear that due to the genre of the music and the

video( my work did not appeal to the adult! %lthough they agreed that the shot

types and camera work was used critically and also agreed that I met the codes

and conventions of what a rap video should be( they argued that the video was

too e*plicit with the use of drugs and alcohol and an alternative video would

have to be made to be shown on 12 music channels before the watershed!

$ubject ) who was mi*ed races and religions aged +, all agreed to that the

codes and conventions were met for rap video but agreed that the use of a white

rapper also deters away from the typical culture of rap and the representation of

the black race within the music video appeals to the typical stereotypes of the

rap genre culture! 1hey also agreed that the use of drugs and alcohol being

presented during the e*treme close up shots connotes what the rap culture is

    about and the urban decay!

Lastly $ubject - which was also a mi*ed group of +. year olds had a less mature

approach to the video( in which they did not understand the concept but knew

what the genre of the video was and also agreed that the video appeals to the

codes and conventions of that! 1his primary research taught me that I achieved

my aim of meeting the codes and conventions of the rap genre music video and

that I also appealed to my psychographic and demographic pro#les of teenagers

between +,/3& who would generally listen to rap music! Whilst the primary

research made me realise how I achieved my goal( you have to consider the

4awthorne theory and how people behave dierently when under pressure(

especially from the director of the music video who put the piece of work

together! Furthermore although this data was helpful it was ualitative datawhich means I could not pull any real statistics from these responses!

1his meant that I turned to surveys to be able to get uantative data which I

could get clear statistics from! 5sing this I asked uestions such as6 Do you think

my music video appeals to the codes and conventions of a rap genre? Would you

watch the video again? Do you think the video has a narrative? Is the video

synchronous with the song? 7'8 of the people I asked agreed that my music

video did appeal to the codes and conventions of a rap music video which also

reinforces the previous subjects I asked in the focus group presentation! 9.8 of

the people also agreed the video somewhat has a narrative which is synchronous

with the lyrics of the song which made them enjoy the video!
